Yen Chen is a competitor who competed in multiple seasons of American Ninja Warrior.
American Ninja Warrior[]
American Ninja Warrior 4[]
Chen first competed in American Ninja Warrior 4, his run wasn't shown, but in his American Ninja Warrior 5 submission video, it was shown that he failed the Jump Hang.
American Ninja Warrior 5[]
In American Ninja Warrior 5, Chen competed in the Venice Qualifiers. His run was digested going into the night, Chen planned to take precautions and run at his own pace. On the Quintuple Steps, Chen applied a unique technique, climbing on the high side of the Steps before making leaps. Chen struggled with the Warped Wall, but got it on his third and final attempt. He cleared the course in 4:26:04, the slowest time from any of the other finishers by a large margin but he did place 17th overall at the end of the night.
At the Venice City Finals, Chen run was shown and compared to qualifying, he decided to hurry his pace compared to his night one performance and completed the front half of the course much faster as a result. This speed did not aid him on the Salmon Ladder where he missed the leap from the trampoline up to the bar, ending his rookie season.
American Ninja Warrior 6[]
In American Ninja Warrior 6, Chen competed at the Denver Qualifiers. His run was digested and he cleared the course in 2:43:53, he placed 16th on the leaderboard.
In the Denver City Finals, Chen was shown as he was able to get revenge on the Salmon Ladder and got all the way to the Doorknob Arch. Chen began losing stamina halfway through the doorknobs and attempted an early dismount. He did not get the distance needed and fell into the water below. This run was enough for 10th place overall, earning him his first trip to Las Vegas.
At the National Finals, Chen's Stage One run was once again shown, his pacing issues from previous seasons caught up to him in this run. He spent good chunks of time in between obstacles, causing him to almost time out. Thankfully, Chen cleared with three seconds left. This would come to hurt him when Stage Two came around, as runs were organized by finishing time as he would only get to see Brian Arnold and JJ Woods attempt the course ahead of him.
Entering Stage Two, Chen's run was once again shown where he struggled a bit with the new obstacle, Rope Jungle as he had only seen two others attempt it before him. His pace was shaky but he became the first to attempt the Butterfly Wall. Chen's short stature made it very hard for him to reach the top of the wall, which you were supposed to grab and hold onto. Chen couldn't reach up to it and fell into the water below, ending his season. Chen would not be the only shorter competitor to fail the Butterfly Wall, as Yusuke Morimoto too would later fail it during American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. The World.
American Ninja Warrior 7[]
After having his best ever performance, Chen returned to the Venice Qualifiers with high expectations. His run was all cut from traditional broadcasts, but was shown in full on Comcast and On Demand. Like previous seasons, Chen was taking the course slowly to preserve his stamina for the later obstacles. This strategy backfired on Chen as unlike seasons five and six, he would not complete the qualifying course for the first time as Chen overshot the second bridge on the Hourglass Drop, disqualifying himself. His time was too slow to advance to the City Finals, putting him at 32nd overall.
This marks his last known American Ninja Warrior attempt.
