Tyler Gillett is a barista from Newnan, Georgia who just turned 21 only a few months before his rookie season in American Ninja Warrior 9, thus enabling him eligible for him to compete.

Gillett is a superfan on ANW who has been submitting videos of him and his friends doing ANW obstacles ever since the age of 14. He is also known as The Dream Chaser.

American Ninja Warrior 9[]

Gillett finally got his chance at the age of 21 in American Ninja Warrior 9, where he competed in the Daytona qualifying course and became the first finisher of the night. He completed the course in 2:17.23, a quick time only Travis Rosen and Drew Drechsel beat, and placed 3rd overall.

In the city finals, Gillett impressed many by making it all the way to the Circuit Board. Gillett placed 7th overall and advanced to the national finals.

In the Vegas finals, he was one of 41 competitors that finished Stage One, in which he finished with 18.36 seconds left on the clock. His run on Stage Two was digested but it was shown that he was one of 7 competitors that failed the Wave Runner.

It was stated in social media that he was originally supposed to compete in Miami for his sophomore season, but due to injuries he acquired, he had to wait a month to compete in Minneapolis instead. In qualifying, he tried to scale the Mega Wall, but failed to scale it. He was still one of 14 competitors to finish the course, finishing with the 9th fastest time overall.

In the city finals, he failed Iron Maiden, but placed 14th overall and made his second trip to the national finals.

On Stage One, his run was digested, but cleared the course with 22.73 seconds left on the clock. His run on Stage Two was also digested, but it was shown that he failed his buddy Kevin Carbone's obstacle, Deja Vu.

Gillett returned once again to ninja competition, this time in Atlanta. He had a fast pace, completing the course with the fastest time. However, he lost to Drew Drechsel on the Power Tower.

In the city finals, he completed the course again with the 3rd fastest time, barely missing out on the Power Tower.

In Vegas, he cleared Stage One and Two, having both runs digested. On Stage Three, his run was digested, but he fell on Cane Lane, marking his best season to date.

American Ninja Warrior 12[]

Tyler was invited to compete on the modified Season 12. He brought along rookies Nate Hansen and Ryan Lashoff. His qualifying run was digested, but it was shown that he cleared with the second fastest time of the night, less than one second behind Jody Avila. In the semifinals, Tyler shared the story of his cousin Bill Meredith, who was fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He managed to become the first finisher of the night, placing 4th and moving onto the finals.

However, he shockingly failed the second obstacle, Spring Forward, in the finals, ending his season. He did the worst out of all the competitors that qualified for the finals that season.

American Ninja Warrior 13[]

Tyler returned to compete in the third qualifying episode. His qualifying run was digested, but it was shown that he took a slower approach to the course so that he could get the Mega Wall. Unfortunately, he missed after getting close with his right hand, but he still cleared his fifth straight qualifying course. He placed 12th overall, being the slowest out of twelve finishers.

Returning to the semifinals, he finished the new Padlock and at Split Decision, chose and failed the 9th obstacle, Diving Boards. No one else cleared them that night. Despite this, he moved onto the Vegas Finals for effectively the 4th season in a row, excluding 2020's modified season.

In Vegas, he finished Stage One once again with a fast time of 25.90s left on the clock. On Stage Two, his season surprisingly ended on the third rung/second move of the new Double Salmon Ladder.

On March 25, 2022, Gillett announced on Instagram that he will not be competing on American Ninja Warrior 14, despite being given an invitation to compete.

Team Ninja Warrior Appearance[]

Gillett also got the honor of being captain of a team of his own on American Ninja Warrior: Ninja vs. Ninja. He called his team Young Bloods because it was the only team in which all three members were rookies from American Ninja Warrior 9. The team composed of him, Kevin Carbone and Bree Widener, all of which debuted in Daytona Beach in that season. It was also revealed that Tyler got a new job, working as an Armored Truck driver for a money transportation company. The Young Bloods qualified for the playoffs on Ninja Vs. Ninja, but they lost the 1st match-up against the Lab Rats in Episode 15 and got eliminated.
