ANW13 Tipping Point

American Ninja Warrior 13's Tipping Point

Horton tippingpoint

Jonathan Horton attempting Tipping Point in American Ninja Warrior 13. Note the highest possible position of the first board, and the final position of the second board after tipping over.

The Tipping Point is an obstacle, firstly introduced as the fourth obstacle during the first episode of qualifiers on American Ninja Warrior 13. This obstacle is named after the term "tipping point", meaning a point where enough small changes or things occur for it to amount to a bigger change.

The obstacle consisted of a long see-saw-like board with six hexagonal panels (which starts out angled at 105 degrees from observation). The fulcrum was in the center of the third hexagon from the left. Competitors would have to climb vertically up these hexagonal panels, so as to rotate the board (at most 275 degrees from observation) clockwise until the board is angled horizontally, and then climb across to a second long board.

The second board was on the other side, meaning the competitor would have to turn around to reach it. Along the top was a long ledge, and competitors would have to traverse it horizontally until their weight would cause the board to tip, and the panel would slide down, allowing competitors to reach the landing platform.

A total of 7 competitors failed on the obstacle during the first episode of qualifiers, those competitors being Sophie Shaft, Jonathan Horton, Tom Mortimer, Jade Buford, Cory Torkelson, Christian Washington, and Ernesto Perez. It ultimately served as the cut-off for the top 30 in that episode for advancing to the semifinals.

During the second episode of qualifiers, more competitors failed here as 17 competitors failed on the obstacle, including Tiana Webberley, Brittney Durant, Sophia Lavallee, Perry Madison, Arnold Hernandez, Brian Montagnese, Rylie Johnston, Sarah Chang, Jon Bundy, and Alex Weber. Once again, it served as the cut-off for the top 30 in that episode for advancing to the semifinals. It also served as the cut-off for the top 5 women.

NWI5 Tipping Point

Ninja Israel 5's Tipping Point to Cliffhanger

On Ninja Warrior Israel 5, the Tipping Point, locally called נקודת מפנה (literally Turning Point) appeared as the sixth obstacle in Heat 3, Heat 9 and Heat 11 and receiving major modifications compared to the version in American Ninja Warrior 13:

  • The second board was placed much nearer from the first board; therefore, it wasn't necessary for competitors to rotate the first board all the way up,
  • After moving to the end of the second panel, competitors must make a transition to the cliffhanger ledge,
  • From there, competitors must traverse a total of two ledges and dismount to the landing platform.

However, the obstacle was extremely brutal compared to American Ninja Warrior 13's version, as it eliminated 8 out of 10 competitors who attempted it. Only Eyal Haiman and Shawn Guetta cleared the Tipping Point part, but only Shawn Guetta cleared the Cliffhanger, while Eyal Haiman fell at the transition to the first ledge.
