SNWI2017 The Pinang

SASUKE Ninja Warrior Indonesia 2017's The Pinang in Semifinal Stage 2

The Pinang is an obstacle, firstly introduced as the first obstacle in Semifinal Stage 2 on SASUKE Ninja Warrior Indonesia 2017.

It consisted of two thick poles and three spinning hoops (similar to the ones used on the Spin Cycle, Roulette Row or Spin Your Wheels, with the difference of the hoops being not tilted) on top of both poles, with the first hoop was attached to the first pole and the third hoop was attached to the second pole. Thus, the first and third hoops were fixed (only rotate), while the second hoop could spin freely.

Competitors must climb up the first pole, until they reached the first hoop. Then, similar to the Spin Cycle, competitors must build enough swing and momentum to make the transition from one hoop to the other, until they reached the third hoop. And finally, competitors must climb down the second pole to the landing platform.

During SASUKE Ninja Warrior Indonesia: International Competition, the second pole was given a blue line, indicating that the competitors were only allowed to make the dismount to the landing platform after their feet reached below the line. There, it eliminated Max Levi Siletty from Team Indonesia, as he dismounted the obstacle without getting past the blue line, resulting in a disqualification.

Trivia

  • This obstacle is inspired from Panjat Pinang (Pinang Climb), one of the competitions which was usually held during Indonesia's Independence Day celebration (every August 17th). In this competition, competitors must climb a slippery tree (called as the Pohon Pinang (Pinang Tree)), in order to reach the top of the tree, which was hanged with a lot of prizes.
  • Pinang can also refer to areca nut in Bahasa Indonesia.
