The Dungeon is an obstacle, firstly introduced as the ninth obstacle during the first episode of the semifinals on American Ninja Warrior 12.
Competitors start on a mini platform and must first work their way up a 9-foot (2.74-meter) tall panel (weighing 100 lbs/45.36kg) using its array of spikes (in a similar manner to the Iron Maiden and its variants). Once they reached the top of the panel, they must hold on to the bar and apply their weight to lock the panel in a horizontal position. From there, they must traverse the panel using the same spikes that are now arranged vertically (in a similar manner to the Swinging Spikes). Once they reached the end of the panel, they must make a 6-foot (1.83-meter) jump onto the second panel that featured two bars attached vertically. This second panel must be rotated in a 180° counterclockwise direction (the joint it is attached to is similar that of the second set of walls in The Hinge). Finally, they must make a dismount to the landing platform.
Once the competitors were on the obstacle, the mini platform was retracted, similar to the landing platform of the obstacle before the Salmon Ladder being pulled away when competitors attempted the obstacle.
This obstacle eliminated seven notable competitors in the first episode of the semifinals: Jody Avila, Donovan Metoyer, Jon Alexis Jr., Flip Rodriguez, Chris DiGangi, Jamie Rahn, and Jesse Labreck. In the second episode of the semifinals, a total of three competitors, including Dan Polizzi and David Wright, fell on it, as well as Drew Drechsel, who was cut in light of his arrest but also was taken out.
Other Season Appearances[]
American Ninja Warrior 13[]
The Dungeon returned as the ninth obstacle during the third and fourth episodes of semifinals on American Ninja Warrior 13. This obstacle was paired with the Diving Boards as part of the Split Decision in both episodes.
During the third semifinal episode, six of the nine competitors who reached the Split Decision chose The Dungeon and all of them were able to complete it, which is a complete contrast to its counterpart, the Diving Boards, which eliminated every competitor who chose the obstacle.
During the fourth semifinal episode, ten out of seventeen competitors who reached the Split Decision chose The Dungeon; however, this time it eliminated two competitors: Devan Alexander and Dan Polizzi.
Other Appearances[]
American Ninja Warrior: Women's Championship[]
The Dungeon appeared as the ninth obstacle during the Women's Championship, which was taped during American Ninja Warrior 12. The obstacle was slightly modified - rather than starting at the bottom of the panel, competitors started by grabbing a small spherical object, making it easier to reach the top of the panel. It still proved to be fairly challenging, as it eliminated Sandy Zimmerman, Mady Howard, and Tiana Webberley. Only Jesse Labreck (who failed on the obstacle during the semifinals) and Meagan Martin were able to complete it.
Australian Ninja Warrior[]
The Dungeon appeared as the fifth obstacle in Stage Two of Australian Ninja Warrior 5, with its function being similar to the semifinals of American Ninja Warrior. Three competitors, Alex Bigg, Jake Baker, and Ashlin Herbert failed on this obstacle and all of them fell to the transition from the spikes to the vertical panel.
Then, the obstacle appeared as the fourth and penultimate obstacle of Stage Three on Australian Ninja Warrior 6, with no changes to the obstacle. Zak Stolz, the only competitor to reach this obstacle, failed on it after not being able to hold on to the second board.
Ninja Warrior Germany[]
In Ninja Warrior Germany 6, The Dungeon, locally known as Zugbrücke (literally Drawbridge), appeared as the second obstacle of the Second Stage. This time, its function was similar to The Dungeon used in the semifinals of American Ninja Warrior, with the difference being that the first three spikes at one end of the first panel were replaced by three rings, making the transition to the vertical panel easier to manage. This resulted in the obstacle only serving as a time waster, as no competitor failed the obstacle on that season.
Then, in Ninja Warrior Germany 7, The Dungeon appeared as the third obstacle of the Third Stage. This time, the third of the three rings got replaced by a spike, making the path to the end of the horizontal panel a tad bit more difficult to traverse across. Once again however, none of the competitors who attempted the obstacle failed it.
Ninja Warrior France[]
On Ninja Warrior France 6, The Dungeon, locally called Le Pont-Levis (literally The Drawbridge), appeared as the fourth obstacle of Qualification 2. It was paired with the Coconut Climb as part of Route B of the Crossroads. This time, the spikes on the first panel were replaced by rings.
The obstacle was also slightly modified for female competitors, as there was a pole at the beginning of the obstacle, in which competitors must climb over to reach the first panel which was already locked in position. In addition, there was a small ledge placed at the bottom of the second panel in which female competitors used in moving the second panel easier.
Ninja Israel[]
On Ninja Warrior Israel 4, The Dungeon, locally called תפסת מרובה (literally You Caught a Gun) appeared as the ninth obstacle in the Stage One, with its function being similar to the semifinals of American Ninja Warrior. After rotating the second panel, competitors must build enough jump and momentum to grab the Rope Ladder, and then climbed it up to reach the buzzer. Due to the brutality of the Dropping Shelves, only three competitors, Yogev Malka, Ishay Halfon, and Yuval Shemla, attempted this obstacle and all three cleared it.
Then, on Ninja Warrior Israel 5, The Dungeon appeared as the seventh obstacle in Semifinal 1, Semifinal 5 and Repechage Semifinal, as a solo obstacle. This time, the obstacle eliminated two out of 10 competitors who attempted it.
