The Tackle Machine (タックルマシン) was the first obstacle of SASUKE 5's Second Stage, replacing the first half of the Spider Walk.

The competitor must push a 50kg (110 lbs) weight down a tunnel to reach the exit. This obstacle was unfailable unless the competitor timed out (which no one even came close to doing). It was replaced by the Narrow in the following tournament.

Tackle

Tackle (タックル) is a new obstacle that first introduced in SASUKE 31. It was the fifth obstacle in the First Stage, which removed the first wall from Ni Ren Soritatsu Kabe thus returning Soritatsu Kabe as the sixth obstacle in the process.

Competitors have to keep pushing on a 12m track until the three boxes are joined and then part of the boxes go into the platform.

The boxes each weigh:

  • 140kg (308 lbs) which is the first box,
  • 160kg (352 lbs) which is the second box, and
  • 180kg (396 lbs) which is the third box.

In total, competitors have to push the weight of 480kg (1058lbs) to the end.

However, for women competitors, they will only need to push a total of 240kg (529lbs) of weight to the end, each weigh:

  • 70kg (154 lbs) which is the first box,
  • 80kg (176 lbs) which is the second box, and
  • 90kg (198 lbs) which is the third box.

Only once a certain amount of the boxes are inside the competitor can go over the boxes to the next obstacle. They don't have to push the entire contraption in.

The netting in the first box is there to assist them in getting over the boxes and onto the platform. Although this obstacle has a very high success rate, it proved to be a massive energy drainer for the competitors. As the result, most competitors got tired and eventually timed out at the Soritatsu Kabe (e.g. Nagano Makoto, Urushihara Yuuji, and Matachi Ryo).

In SASUKE 32, Tackle was modified by increasing its weight by:

  • 240kg (approx. 529 lbs) on the first box,
  • 300kg (approx. 661 lbs) on the second box, and
  • 320kg (approx. 705 lbs) on the third box.

This creates a total weight of 860kg (approx. 1895 lbs), almost to a ton.

To make it easier for women, the weight is being toned down to:

  • 80kg (approx. 176lbs) on the first box,
  • 100kg (approx. 220 lbs) on the second box, and
  • 120kg (approx. 264 lbs) on the third box.

Due to that notorious weight, a lot of competitors timed out at the Soritatsu Kabe.

The weight was kept the same in SASUKE 33. However, more competitors cleared the Soritatsu Kabe after that, due to the lenient time limit at that tournament.
