Swing Mast (スイングマスト) was a VIKING obstacle originally introduced as the seventh obstacle in the First Marine Stage in the first two VIKING tournaments, however with the addition of Alphabet Parley and Island Escape, it was pushed to be the eighth obstacle in VIKING 3, albeit maintaining its status as the penultimate obstacle, like the Tarzan Rope from SASUKE. It would once again relocate in VIKING 4, this time as the second obstacle in Third Fantasy Stage.
It consisted of a rope with a weight on the end of it which the competitor had to launch towards a horizontal pole above them. The launch had to be perfect enough to wrap the weight around the pole enough to support the competitor as they swing to a mat below.
If the weight wasn't wrapped around tight enough, when the competitor swung the rope will detach from the pole which will cause the competitor to swing just short of the mat and fall into the water. If the launch wasn't powerful enough to reach the pole, the competitor had to drag the rope back to the start which wasted time along with preparing the launch.
Most who reached this point either timed out because the rope would never wrap around the pole, or fell in the water just short of the mat as they are rushing to chase the time, which happen to SASUKE All-Stars Akiyama Kazuhiko and Yamamoto Shingo (in his case, he reached the mat but flew back in the water).
For its appearance in VIKING 4's Third Fantasy Stage, two sets of the obstacle were provided for competitors due to that tournament's head-to-head pair format. In addition, the mat was replaced by a solid pathway.
