Intro[]
SASUKE 31 (officially,「SASUKE2015」) is the 31st tournament of SASUKE and the fourth tournament since Urushihara Yuuji's second kanzenseiha. Competitors from several countries came to represent themselves in the tournament. It's also worth noting that this tournament had the best ratings since SASUKE 27.
The First Stage was moderately revised. The Rolling Hill and Orugōru replaced the Long Jump and Hedgehog respectively, while the Tackle replaced the first wall of the Ni Ren Soritatsu Kabe, thus returning to the original Soritatsu Kabe, though 0.3 meters taller than the Shin-SASUKE's height.
Interestingly, for the first time ever, the competitors' names were shown at the backdrop of the First Stage, just before they ran, in which their names were written in English alphabet. However, the producers misspelled Drew Drechsel's name into "Drew Doressheru", because the producers did not know how his last name was spelled, so they had to focus on the Romaji (Doryū Doressheru). This error was corrected for his run in the next tournament.
The SASUKE All-Stars performed poorly, as both Yamamoto Shingo and Takeda Toshihiro failed at the first obstacle for the first time in both competitors' tournament history (making both of them as the second and third SASUKE All-Stars to fail at the very first obstacle of the First Stage, after Akiyama Kazuhiko's failure at the Godantobi in SASUKE 9), and Nagano Makoto once again timed out on the Soritatsu Kabe due to fatigue from taking on the Tackle. The Tackle also tired out other top competitors such as Matachi Ryo and Urushihara Yuuji, causing them to time out on the Soritatsu Kabe. Kishimoto Shinya did not run the course due to a back injury. Despite some top competitors coming up short, 17 competitors cleared the First Stage.
The Second Stage saw the removal of the controversial Swap Salmon Ladder and Unstable Bridge, in favor of the Salmon Ladder Nobori and Salmon Ladder Kudari. Hanamoto Riku was the only competitor to fail the Salmon Ladder Nobori, while Fukanuma Kai failed the transition and Alexander Mars failed Salmon Ladder Kudari. Based on external information, Anastase Ragivaru had a small slip-up on the Salmon Ladder Nobori and Kudari, but powered through so hard, that he ended up breaking a few rungs. This indirectly caused the Cross Slider to malfunction which led to a controversial fail by Kung Cheen-Howng and also took out Darvish Kenji and Kikuchi Masamitsu. The Spider Drop was also modified without the black mats, instead replaced by a curved wall and made into an official individual obstacle as opposed to being a part of the Spider Walk. The Backstream only took out Yamamoto Hiroshige, while the Wall Lifting took out Okada Yuuichi and Zhang Wang Yang. The stage took out 9 competitors, but 8 competitors managed to defeat the stage. The time limit in the Second Stage was also proven to be rather lenient compared to the last two tournaments, as 6 of the 8 competitors cleared with over 10 seconds left.
The Third Stage was also moderately revamped. The Drum Hopper was moved to the first obstacle, the Sidewinder R was added as the third obstacle, and the Vertical Limit was given a second section and renamed as the Vertical Limit Kai. However, it was the Crazy Cliffhanger that once again took out the most, eliminating 6 of the 8 competitors. Only Morimoto Yūsuke and Kanno Hitoshi cleared it, and while Kanno failed the Vertical Limit Kai, Morimoto managed to beat the Third Stage and move on to the Final Stage.
In the Final Stage, Morimoto Yūsuke achieved the fifth ever kanzenseiha in SASUKE, completing the Final Stage with 2.59 seconds left, becoming the fourth person ever and the youngest (at 23 years old, beating Akiyama Kazuhiko at 26 years old when he achieved kanzenseiha in SASUKE 4) to do so.
