ANW6 Rope Jungle

American Ninja Warrior 6's Rope Jungle in Stage Two

The Rope Jungle is an obstacle, firstly introduced as the first obstacle in Stage Two on American Ninja Warrior 6, replacing the Hang Slider from the previous season.

Competitors must traverse a series of ropes (in a similar fashion to the Tarzan Rope) to reach the landing platform. The ropes operated differently, as:

  • Some ropes were attached to a bungee cord, which would move the ropes down when competitors applied their weight on the ropes,
  • Some ropes would slide on a track that if the ropes would go the end of the track, the momentum would swing the ropes and the competitors, and
  • Some ropes were only attached to the scaffolding, which means those ropes were stationary.

Although no competitor failed on this obstacle, it was proven to be both a massive time waster and strength drainer, as every competitor who attempted the obstacle took at least 9 seconds to complete it (some of them even took more than 40 seconds to complete it). As the result, several competitors later failed on the next obstacles, either the Double Salmon Ladder (e.g. Lorin Ball and JJ Woods) or Unstable Bridge (e.g. Brian Arnold, Noah Kaufman, and Paul Kasemir).

During USA vs. The World, the obstacle took out 2 members of Team Japan: Matachi Ryo and Kanno Hitoshi, with both of them getting hung up on the ropes and spending more than 50 seconds at the obstacle, resulting their grip gave out and fell into the water.

Ninja Warrior UK's Rope Jungle

The Rope Jungle appeared as the first obstacle in the finals' Stage 2 on Ninja Warrior UK and Ninja Warrior UK 2. Although no competitor failed on the obstacle, just like on American Ninja Warrior, it was proven to be a massive time waster (combined with the tight time limit of the stage, requiring competitors to complete the obstacle without any mistake or getting hung up on the ropes).

The obstacle also became one of the reasons why no competitor completed Stage 2 on both seasons of Ninja Warrior UK, and was removed on the next season, followed by the redesign of Stage 2 (the redesign resulted 2 competitors completed Stage 2 for the first time in Ninja Warrior UK history).

Australian Ninja Warrior's Jungle Ropes

On Australian Ninja Warrior, the Rope Jungle appeared as the first obstacle in Stage Two, and was called as the Jungle Ropes. However, the number of ropes was drastically reduced to just 4, making the gaps between the ropes were much larger.

Just like during the first two seasons of Ninja Warrior UK, the obstacle was proven to be a massive time waster (combined with the very tight time limit of the stage, requiring competitors to complete the obstacle without any mistake or getting hung up on the ropes). As the result, the obstacle eliminated 4 out 9 competitors who attempted it, and eventually, no competitor could complete the first five obstacles of Stage Two on that season.
