American Ninja Warrior 16's Reel to Reel
Reel to Reel is an obstacle firstly introduced as the second obstacle during the first qualifier round on American Ninja Warrior 16, and later appeared during the fourth, sixth, and seventh qualifier rounds.
Competitors must hold onto a cylinder with ledges on both sides, ride it down a track, and release at an opportune time to then transfer to a second cylinder attached to a pendulum (similar to the third wheel of the Fly Wheels, except the wheel also spins), and then dismount to the landing platform.
In all four of its qualifying apperances, the obstacle took out several competitors:
- In the first qualifier round, 6 competitors failed the obstacle, including Milton Nkunku, Marques Leonard, and Sandy Zimmerman.
- In the fourth qualifier round, 7 competitors failed the obstacle, including Rachel Cornish, Melia Ochsner, John Kodachi, Carter Ray, Parker Hewes, and Rachel Degutz.
- In the sixth qualifier round, 9 competitors failed the obstacle, including McKinley Pierce, Kevin Liang, Cheyenne Arrington, Bryan Billigmeier, and James Burns.
- In the seventh qualifier round, 6 competitors failed the obstacle, including Tyler Kurtzhals, Eric Small, Isaiah Waghiyi, Brian Montagnese, Chris Mazdzer, and Tom Simek.
Sources of failure on the obstacle typically came from one of three ways. Several competitors lost their grip during the track descent. Others failed to make the grab to the second cylinder during the lache transfer. There were a few competitors that also failed to launch themselves in time during the descent transfer, thus stranding them on the first cylinder.
