Revision as of 06:24, 2 December 2019
The Quad Steps (クワッドステップス) is an (considered new in Japan) obstacle that is introduced in SASUKE 32.
The obstacle consists of four angled steps, similar to the Godantobi, which was the original incarnation of the Quad Steps, hence the reference. Competitors have to transit 4 angled steps that has a width of 90 cm (revealed via a 360Channel trailer for SASUKE 33) which has the same concept of clearing the Godantobi, albeit with the steps being wider.
However, this obstacle connects directly to the Rolling Hill, making the transition between these two obstacles harder. A safety mat is placed between the Quad Steps and Rolling Hill to catch competitors that roll down the hill. However, it is off limits to touch when transitioning between the two obstacles, though stepping on them unintentionally may not result to disqualification.
Also, competitors are not allowed to skip a footing (one-siding - only attempts either left or right side) on the obstacle as what happened to HAYATE on SASUKE 34, though this is unverified.
While the success rate is very high, several notable competitors has failed this obstacle as Kishimoto Shinya did in SASUKE 33 and Mori Wataru did in SASUKE 34.
Note: The word 'Quad' translated into Japanese katakana can be クアッド (kuaddo) or クワッド (kuwaddo), but since the official term for 'Quad' is クワッド (kuwaddo) in SASUKE, it will be used as it is then.
American Ninja Warrior Appearances
Originally, the Quad Steps was firstly introduced as the first obstacle on American Ninja Warrior 2 and American Ninja Warrior 3 in qualifying and semifinal, and then on American Ninja Warrior 4 in every qualifying region. During its overall appearances, the obstacle had taken out a lot of competitors, including:
- Jamie Rahn and James McGrath (on their first American Ninja Warrior appearances during American Ninja Warrior 2's qualifying),
- Shane Daniels and Trevor Vaughn (during American Ninja Warrior 3's qualifying),
- Levi Meeuwenberg (during American Ninja Warrior 4's Southwest region qualifiers, which would lead to his retirement from the competition), and
- Michael Needham (during American Ninja Warrior 4's Northeast region finals).
On American Ninja Warrior 5, it was replaced by the Quintuple Steps in every qualifying city. Later, the Quintuple Steps was replaced by the Floating Steps on American Ninja Warrior 8.
