The Passing Wall (パッシングウォール) was the final obstacle in the Second Stage of SASUKE 28, the tournament after Urushihara Yuuji's second kanzenseiha. This obstacle replaced the long standing Wall Lifting, which appeared in every tournament (except SASUKE 18). The walls were changed back to metal and painted silver, with the currently-used Japanese daiji numerals "壱", "弐", "参". Those visuals would be eventually used on the Wall Lifting from SASUKE 30 to SASUKE 34.
The Passing Wall functioned similar to the Wall Lifting in that the first and third walls must be lifted to advance, the only difference being the second wall must now be pulled apart to the sides to advance through it.
The first wall was 30kg (66 lbs), just like Wall Lifting's first wall, and had just two small handholds, with the entire area below the wall was blocked off. This caused a lot of havoc among some competitors, as it prevented them from ducking under the wall and also should the wall fall on them, it was seemingly difficult to break free.
Although the weight of the second wall was not revealed on-screen, during Kanno Hitoshi's run in SASUKE 29, the announcer (Hatsuta Keisuke) claimed it was 40kg (88 lbs), just like Wall Lifting's second wall. Unlike the first wall (in which there were handholds below it), the handholds were placed in the middle of the wall, meaning competitors must pry the walls open with enough space for them to pass through it.
The third wall was 50kg (110 lbs), just like the third wall of the Wall Lifting. It also had been raised a foot off the ground to prevent injuries, such as what happened to Levi Meeuwenberg (as his foot got stuck on the third wall of the Wall Lifting in SASUKE 20).
The obstacle came after the Backstream, which caused the competitors to have trouble lifting the walls due to wet hands. During Asa Kazuma's run in SASUKE 28, there was a platform placed before the obstacle, but this was removed in later runs.
In SASUKE 28, Matachi Ryo made a mental mistake by going under the first wall too soon, therefore getting stuck under the wall, making him the only competitor to fail at this obstacle in that tournament. The other three competitors (Asa Kazuma, Urushihara Yuuji, and Kanno Hitoshi) all showed signs of struggling, but managed to overcome it.
In SASUKE 29, two competitors, Lee En-Chih and Nagasaki Shunsuke timed out on this obstacle. While Morimoto Yūsuke, seemingly only cleared because he slipped under the last wall's gap without lifting it, and was allowed to advance. As he cleared with less than a second remaining, he would have failed this obstacle if he had tried to advance by lifting the last wall.
For SASUKE 30, the second wall was changed in that it had to be lifted in order to advance, thus returning the Wall Lifting, albeit with the first wall retaining its handholds.
