Off the Hook is an obstacle, firstly introduced as the second obstacle on American Ninja Warrior 11 in Atlanta. The obstacle is named after the phrase often meaning away from control.
It consisted of two swings, each with a peg attached to it. The first swing had its peg attached on the right side along with a ring, while the second swing had its peg attached on the front side.
Competitors must grab a ring from the first swing and generate enough swing and momentum (in a similar fashion to the Ring Swing) to unhook the ring to the second swing's peg (in a similar fashion to the Sky Hooks). After that, they must generate enough swing and momentum to make the dismount to the landing platform.
A total of 26 competitors failed the obstacle during Atlanta qualifiers, including Tim Saguinsin and Colleen McCormack. A common mistake done on the obstacle was not having enough momentum to transfer between rings. Some also failed the dismount of the obstacle. However, during Atlanta finals, only Kirill Rebkovets and Tyrone Poole fell on the obstacle.
Other Season Appearances[]
American Ninja Warrior 12[]
On American Ninja Warrior 12, Off the Hook appeared as the second obstacle during the fourth episode of the qualifiers and later the first episode of the semifinals.
In qualifying, the obstacle eliminated seven competitors during the fourth episode of the qualifiers, including Katie Lanza. In the first episode of the semifinals, two competitors (Roo Yori and Caitlyn Bergstrom, both of which completed it twice in Atlanta last season) failed it.
American Ninja Warrior: Women's Championship[]
Off the Hook appeared as the second obstacle, on the first Women's Championship. Nothing was changed about the obstacle, and possibly as a result of that, no one fell on it.
Other Appearances[]
Australian Ninja Warrior[]
On Australian Ninja Warrior 6, Off The Hook appeared as the second obstacle of the Power Pool in Heat 2, with a rope to a static bar as a medium to get up to the first hook after competitors finished the Sprinting Steps.
Since it was a Power Pool obstacle, it wasn't meant to be deadly, and it showed as it only took out Dylan James of Match 2.
Ninja Israel[]
On Ninja Warrior Israel 3, Off the Hook, locally called קליעת הוו (literally Hook Knitting) appeared as the fourth obstacle in the Route A of Heat 4, Heat 6, Heat 10 and Heat 14, and was very similar to the one used on American Ninja Warrior 11. The obstacle was quite brutal, as it eliminated eight out of 17 competitors who attempted it.
Then, in Ninja Warrior Israel 4, Off the Hook appeared as the first obstacle of the Stage Three with the same specification as in the previous season. While all three competitors that attempted the obstacle cleared, Yogev Malka notably struggled with the obstacle, spending more than a minute on this obstacle before finally clearing it.
In Ninja Warrior Israel 5, Off the Hook moved to the Stage One as the fourth obstacle with the same specification as in the previous season. Due to the time limit on Stage One, the obstacle mainly served as a time waster, as only Kfir Atzmon and Alex Kostenko failed it, with Kfir Atzmon failing the dismount of and with Kostenko failing the jump transition to the second hook.
