Ninja Warrior Germany Kids was the first installment of the children's edition of Ninja Warrior Germany, and also the third international Ninja Warrior Junior format (after American Ninja Warrior Junior and Ninja Warrior Israel Junior). Due to the COVID-19-pandemic circumstances, the show was recorded in the MCC Studio (Coloneum), in Cologne and only family members of the competitors and their Ninja-Coaches were allowed to attend the taping due to safety reasons. The premiere aired on July 17th, 2020 at Super RTL. The hosts of this season, just as of the regular Ninja Warrior Germany seasons, were Frank Buschmann and Jan Köppen, however the sideline reporter of this season was the influencer, actress and singer Julia Beautx, replacing Laura Wontorra.
Like American Ninja Warrior Junior, kids competitors were divided by two age brackets: 10-11 years old and 12-13 years old. However, the format was very similar to the Ninja Warrior Israel Junior (since the format of the show was identical to the regular competition, instead of Ninja vs. Ninja style format) with several differents.
The Qualifications[]
Age Bracket: 10-11 Years[]
The Preliminary Rounds were run over in 4 episodes in total, with each Preliminary Round course always consisting of 7 obstacles, which, unlike in the regular Ninja Warrior Germany seasons, would not differ from Preliminary Round to Preliminary Round. Out of the 8, in each Preliminary Round, participating competitors of this age bracket, the 4 best/fastest competitors of each Preliminary Round would advance to the Semi-finals. There was no time limit in the Preliminary Rounds.
The Modified Obstacles[]
Most obstacles, that have also been present in the regular Ninja Warrior Germany seasons, have been modified for this particular installment, in order to be not too difficult for the competitors. The following obstacles of the Preliminary Rounds had modifications, compared to the regular iterations:
- The Quintuple Steps (Fünfsprung) had smaller distances between each step.
- The Floating Tiles (Schwebende Tritte) had bigger tiles and also had smaller distances between each tile.
- The Crank It Up (Einraster) only consisted of two sets of handles, instead of three sets, with the third set of handles being replaced by a ring, which the competitors had to use, in order to swing to the landing platform.
- The Warped Wall (Wand) had two handles, which the comeptitors could use, in order to pull themselves up.
