Ninja Warrior Germany 8 (officially known as Ninja Warrior Germany - Die stärkste Show Deutschlands 2023) was the eighth season of the international SASUKE/Ninja Warrior format in Germany and also the second season since the Total Victories of Moritz Hans and René Casselly in Ninja Warrior Germany 6. The show got recorded from June 22nd to July 6th, 2023 and it was recorded in the MMC Studio (Coloneum) in Cologne Germany, making it the fourth straight regular season to have been recorded there. And due to the fact that the COVID-19-pandemic did not pose a problem at that time of the recordings anymore, the different episodes got recorded with an actual audience again. The premiere episode of the season was aired on October 13th, 2023 at RTL. The hosts of this season, just as of the other seasons, were Frank Buschmann & Jan Köppen and the sideline reporter of this season was Laura Wontorra.

This time, 250 competitors were at the start of the season, and were first evenly spread across six different Preliminary Round episodes (with about 40 of them being in one Preliminary Round). After that, the best competitors of the six Preliminary Rounds would be spread across two Semi-finals episodes (with one half being present in one Semi-finals episode) and the final competitors would then be spread across two Finals episodes which were aired on December 8th & December 15th, 2023.

It is known that this season not only saw the return of many talented youngsters who already participated in Ninja Warrior Germany 7 and the first appearances of many new younger competitors, but also the return of many veteran names who had left a major mark in the past few seasons. These names included Andreas Wöhle, Giovanni Ertl, Benjamin Grams, and (most notably) the three-time in a row Last Man Standing Alexander Wurm, whose appearance in this season marked the first performance in a Ninja Warrior Germany competition in two years.

The Castings[]

The Castings for this eighth season of Ninja Warrior Germany commenced on November of 2022. One major requirement was that the applicant must be at least 16 years old. However, applicants who are minors require the consent of their parents or a legal guardian. In addition to general data, the application must also include information about the level of fitness and sporting background. A short text explaining why the participant is applying to participate in “Ninja Warrior Germany” was also relevant.

The Qualifications[]

This time, the Preliminary Rounds were run over in six episodes in total. There were about 40 competitors in each of the Preliminary Rounds and the Top 13 competitors in each of the Preliminary Rounds (the 13 competitiors placed in the leaderboard shown at end of the Preliminary Round), i.e. either 13 finishers (in case of exactly 13) or the 13 furthest fastest* (in case of zero finishers), would advance to the Semi-finals. And just as in the few previous seasons, there was the additional special regulation that would make it easier for women to qualify for the Finals. This rule stated that if no female was ranked in the final regular Top 13 ranking, the Top 2 females outside of this Top 13 still got to advance to the Semi-finals. If only one female was ranked in the regular Top 12, then the special rule only applied to the next best female outside the Top 12. And if at least two females were ranked in the final Top 12, this special rule would no longer apply. In addition, the Preliminary Round compeititors could once again try the 5.50-meter-high Mega Wall. The participants who would manage to clear the Mega Wall on their one and only try would not only receive a 2,000 € cash prize, but would also secure their spot for the Semi-finals, which means that they would advance even if they did not finish in the Top 13 of their Preliminary Round.

Note*: In case of more than 13 finishers, only the 13 best finishers would advance, and in case of less than 13 but more than zero finishers, the furthest fastest along with the other finishers would advance.

The New Additions[]

New Gimmicks[]

The Super Salmon Ladder[]

After the appearance of the Duel Course in Ninja Warrior Germany 7, the Duel Course got replaced and would not appear at the end of each Preliminary Round episode anymore. Instead, the Top 4 participants of each Preliminary Round would now compete on the Super Salmon Ladder, locally called Endlose Himmelsleiter (literally Endless Ladder to Heaven in German), at the end of their respective Preliminary Round episode, making Ninja Warrior Germany the second ever International SASUKE/Ninja Warrior show (after Ninja Israel) to have included the Super Salmon Ladder in a regular season of their show. Compared to the Super Salmon Ladder of Ninja Warrior Germany All-Stars, the amount of rungs was only 30 (possibly due to the quite limited height of the recording location) and not 35. And, unlike on the Power Tower or the Duel Course, the Super Salmon Ladder participants would not compete in direct head-to-head duels, but would go one after the other, following the classic Ninja Warrior Germany All-Stars rules. The competitor who either completed the obstacle in the best time (in case of two or more finishers), or made it the highest in the best time (in case of two or multiple competitors failing the exact same rung transition) would not only receive a cash prize of 5,000 €, but would also receive the Speed Pass (mistakenly called Safety Pass by the producers of Ninja Warrior Germany), meaning that the competitor would automatically advance to the Finals of the season.

The Extra Cash Prizes[]

In addition to the above mentioned introduction of the Super Salmon Ladder, there would now also be cash prizes for the 2nd, 3rd and the 4th place at the end of the post-Preliminary Round obstacle, and not just for the winner of it:

  • The 2nd place would receive a cash prize of 2,500 €,
  • The 3rd place would receive a cash prize of 1,000 €,
  • And the 4th place would receive a cash prize of 500 €.

New Obstacles[]

Just as in the previous season, there were many "new obstacles" in this season, i.e. obstacles which have never been used in any of the previous regular seasons of Ninja Warrior Germany, but were used in American Ninja Warrior before. The new obstacles of the Preliminary Rounds of this season were the following:

  • Rollercoaster (Achterbahn), firstly used in Preliminary Round 1.
  • Carnival (Jackpost), firstly used in Preliminary Round 1.
  • Spin Zone (Fidget Spinner), firstly used in Preliminary Round 1.
  • Piston Plunge (Kolbenfresser), firstly used in Preliminary Round 5.

The Semi-finals[]

The Semi-finals was run over in two episodes in total. This time, there were about 45 competitors in each of the Semi-finals episodes and only the Top 30 competitors of both Semi-finals episodes (the 30 competitiors placed in the leaderboard shown at end of the second Semi-finals episode), i.e. either 30 finishers (in case of exactly 30) or the 30 furthest fastest* (in case of zero finishers), would advance to the Finals of the season. The six Super Salmon Ladder winners of each Preliminary Round would also have a chance to attempt the Semi-finals course but it wouldn't affect the official leaderboard, since they are already automatically qualified for the Finals. In addition, there would once again be the Speed Reward cash prizes. This means that the Top competitor of the Semi-finals (this would also apply to the case in which a Speed Pass winner was placed on this podium) would receive a cash prize of 10,000 €, the second best competitor would receive a 5,000 € cash prize and the third best competitor would receive a 2,500€ cash prize.

Note*: In case of more than 30 finishers, only the 30 best finishers would advance, and in case of less than 30 but more than zero finishers, the furthest fastest along with the other finishers would advance.

Recording Date (Semi-finals 1): July 1st, 2023.
Original Airdate: November 24th, 2023.

Recording Date (Semi-finals 2): July 2nd, 2023.
Original Airdate: December 1st, 2023.

The New Additions[]

New Regulations[]

Special Regulation For Female Competitors[]

After no female competitor managed to qualify for the Finals in Ninja Warrior Germany 7, there was now an additional regulation to make it easier for women to qualify for the Finals for first time in the history in the regular competitions of Ninja Warior Germany. This rule stated that if no female was ranked in the final regular Top 30 ranking (the leaderboard shown at end of the second Semi-finals episode), the Top 2 females outside of this Top 30 still got to advance to the Finals. If only one female was ranked in the regular Top 30, then the special rule only applied to the next best female outside the Top 30. And if at least two females were ranked in the final Top 30, this special rule would no longer apply.

New Obstacles[]

  • Flipped Around (Wirbel-Bretter) with the appearance of another rotating board (similar to the end of the Dungeon.) which was in both rounds of the Semi-finals.
  • Water Walls to Rope Ladder (Wasser-Wände) which was in both rounds of the Semi-finals.

The Finals[]

The Finals was run over in two episodes in total. Here, the 37 remaining participants would battle against four Stages, in order to become the second winner of Ninja Warrior Germany and of a 300,000 € cash prize + the title "2. Ninja Warrior Germany". Once again, if none of the remaining male participants would manage to achieve the sole Total Victory / win the show or if a female competitor would manage to win the show, the male participant who then either made it the furthest, or the furthest in the best time (in case of two or more competitors failing at the exact same point), the Last Man Standing, would receive the aforementioned title plus a 25,000 € cash prize. In addition to that, the Last Woman Standing of the season, i.e. the best female athlete of the entire season who would not manage to win the show, would also receive a 25,000 € cash prize.
