The Muscle Gym (マッスルジム) is an event in Kinniku Banzuke where two competitors go head to head to see who can do as many physical exercises as possible in three minutes. This event is intended as a successor to Quick Muscle, another notable Kinniku Banzuke event.
Compared to the Quick Muscle, the Muscle Gym involves three different exercises that competitors would do within one minute intervals. After completing the three minute mark, the number of exercises in each station would be added altogether and displayed for each contestant, and whoever has done the most at the end of the three minutes is crowned the champion.
Due to the nature of the event, competitors would sometimes do the exercises in a faster pace to the point where they can take a few seconds to rest before starting to attempt the next set of exercises.
Course Layout[]
The Muscle Gym would have three different kinds of stations that made an appearance throughout its lifetime.
Sit-Ups[]
This station involves competitors doing a series of sit-ups from the start until the one minute mark before proceeding to the next station. For a sit-up to count, competitors must place their chins to the top of the sensors properly. This led to some instances where some of the sit-ups would not count by the sensors, wasting time to make their exercises count.
Back Extensions[]
This station involves competitors doing a series of back extensions from the one minute mark until the second minute mark before proceeding to the next station. Competitors have to hang their upper body over the edge of a platform, face down, and keep moving the top of their body up and down. For a back extension to count, the contestants must hit the sensor above them with their head.
Push Ups[]
The station involves competitors doing a series of push ups from the second minute mark until the third minute mark, finishing the entire heat. The number of push-ups is counted by pressing the switch using the competitor's chins. A sensor is installed at shoulder height, and a push-up is not counted unless the body is raised to that height. Competitors are disqualified if they lost their balance or their feet stick out on the platform.
Sportsman Appearances[]
The Muscle Gym would also appear as a Sportsman event introduced in the Celebrity Survival Challenge Battle Tournament in CB Celebrity Sportsman No. 1.
The event itself would be similar to its appearance in Kinniku Banzuke, but competitors of three or four would get to attempt in each heat.
The Celebrity Record for the most number of exercises cleared stands at 241 push-ups which is held by Tomoyuki in 2007.
This event would appear in two Celebrity Survival Battles.
