Matt Asanuma was a 22-year old Japanese-American student who competed on American Ninja Warrior.
Matt looked phenomenal early on. He absolutely blazed through the first four obstacles, and easily cleared the Pipe Slider due to the large amount of momentum he had. However, his strength started to dry out on the Warped Wall, as he missed badly on his first attempt. However, he cleared on his second attempt with a time of 59.1 seconds, briefly stealing the top spot from Brian Kretsch.
In the semi-finals round, he was much stronger early on, blazing through all six obstacles with no difficulties. However, he started to struggle on the back half of the course, as he had difficulty clearing the Tarzan Rope, and ultimately wiped out on the Jumping Bars after attempting to reach for the second bar instead of jump for it, a technique which ended up backfiring. He placed 25th overall, and did not move on.
