The Lamp Grasper (ランプグラスパー), called Globe Grasp in English broadcasts, is a Third Stage obstacle introduced in SASUKE 9, replacing Arm Bike that had been placed as third obstacle in the last five tournaments.
Competitors must grab onto fourteen small and glowing blue spheres that attached to the scaffolding above to reach the landing platform. They are allowed to skip several spheres or traverse down only one side of the obstacle, though this seems impossible due to the gap of the spheres.
Like the Cliffhanger Kai, which was introduced in the same tournament, the distance of the obstacle to the finish platform varied from one tournament to another:
- In SASUKE 9, the platform was placed a bit after the fourteenth sphere, so competitors were forced to grab all fourteen spheres.
- In SASUKE 10 and 12, the platform was placed slightly after the thirteenth sphere, so competitors could dismount after grabbing the twelfth sphere.
- In SASUKE 11, the platform was placed below the fourteenth sphere, so competitors could dismount after grabbing the thirteenth sphere. In fact, if competitors built enough momentum like Iketani Naoki did, it was still possible to dismount it while grabbing at the twelfth sphere.
It was famous for its dominance over Nakata Daisuke, who failed this obstacle each time from SASUKE 9 to SASUKE 11. Takeda Toshihiro was the other victim of the obstacle, failing it in SASUKE 9. However, due to Nagano Makoto's near miss of Kanzenseiha in SASUKE 12, it was replaced by Curtain Cling.
Kudari Lamp Grasper[]
The Kudari Lamp Grasper (下りランプグラスパー), called the Downward Globe Grasp or the Globe Grasp in English broadcasts, was a modification of the Lamp Grasper that was originally introduced in SASUKE 19, which again replaced the Arm Bike from the previous tournament, however, due to the dominance of Second Stage in that tournament, it wasn't attempted until SASUKE 20.
In this incarnation, the scaffolding was angled downward and the spheres were more grouped than the original Lamp Grasper. There are only thirteen spheres with a very noticeable starting point difference with the Lamp Grasper starting with right hand, while the Kudari Lamp Grasper starting with left hand. Also, the spheres themselves were not glowing and blue-coloured like in the Lamp Grasper.
Competitors were allowed to skip several spheres or traverse down only one side of the obstacle like in the Lamp Grasper, with this being displayed by Levi Meeuwenberg in SASUKE 23.
Unlike the Lamp Grasper, the Kudari Lamp Grasper never eliminated any competitor who attempted it, likely due to the downward angle of the obstacle and a much closer gap between the spheres, letting the competitors easily grab the spheres, probably the reason it was replaced by Rope Junction in SASUKE 24.
Other Appearances[]
American Ninja Warrior[]
The Lamp Grasper appeared in American Ninja Warrior 4, as the eighth obstacle during Midwest and Midsouth region finals. However, the number of lamps was increased to twenty, the length of the obstacle was increased to 20ft (6m, compared to 5m in SASUKE) and the scaffolding was angled slightly upward. Also, the obstacle preceded Salmon Ladder with no rest, which made the obstacle harder than the one used in SASUKE.
Globe Grasper[]
In American Ninja Warrior 7, a new version of the Lamp Grasper called the Globe Grasper appeared as the ninth obstacle during San Pedro (Military) finals.
There were several differences between the Lamp Grasper and the Globe Grasper. In the Lamp Grasper, the globes were attached to the scaffolding, while in the Globe Grasper, the globes were attached to a pole which was connected to the scaffolding. Also, some of the globes were stable, while others would swing freely, which made it harder for the competitors to maintain the grip from the globes and were divided into three sections; the first sections was angled upward and has 4 pairs of fixed globes, while the second section was angled downward and has 4 pairs swinging globes. The last section has 5 pairs of globes and consists of 4 pairs of fixed globes, while the last one swings.

Australian Ninja Warrior[]
In Australian Ninja Warrior, the Globe Grasper appeared as the seventh obstacle in Stage One. However, the number of globes was drastically reduced to just 6, 3 on the first section and 3 on the second section, all the globes can swing freely and the sections were S-shaped, similar to the ones used in the Swinging Spikes. The competitors also have to climb a pole to reach the first globe.
Ninja Warrior Poland[]
In Ninja Warrior Poland 4, the Globe Grasper appeared as the fifth obstacle during Heat 1 and Heat 4. The number of globes on both sections has been reduced to 4. After passing all the globes, competitors must grab the lache bar, swing and jump to the landing platform.
It returned in Ninja Warrior Poland 7, as the seventh obstacle in Stage Two. This time, the obstacle consisted of three sections, similar to the Power Tower in season five, with the first and third sections angled upwards and the second section angled downwards. In addition, after completing all the globes, competitors must grab a rope leading to the next obstacle.
Then, on Ninja Warrior Poland 8, the Globe Grasper appeared in the same position as in the previous season. The only change compared to season seven was the positioning of the third set of globes at a slightly lower angle.
Later, on Ninja Warrior Poland 9, the Globe Grasper appeared in the same position as in two previous seasons, with no change compared to the one used in the previous season.
Ninja Warrior Hungary[]
The Globe Grasper was the 5th obstacle of Heat 3 of Ninja Warrior Hungary 2. This version consists of 3 sections, 1 upward section with 4 globes then 1 downward section with 3 section and a final downward section with 2 globes. All globes can swing freely.
Team Ninja Warrior[]
The Globe Grasper appeared as the 8th obstacle in Relay Showdown of Team Ninja Warrior 2. This version consists of 3 sections, 1 upward section, then 2 downward sections, each with 4 globes. Unlike the ANW7 San Pedro (Military) version, all the globes swing freely and do not come in pairs.
