Kinniku Banzuke was the predecessor show to SASUKE. It ran from October 14, 1995 to May 4, 2002. Unlike SASUKE, which is one event with four stages, Banzuke had over twenty events with one stage each. However, like SASUKE, when a competitor earned kanzenseiha in one of the events, it was completely redesigned but the general purpose stayed the same. To reflect this, the event name had a roman numberal added to the end of it (ex. Hand Walk II).

Events

  • Amazing Road - The competitor must cross a 15 meter balance beam while dodging spinning turnstiles.
  • Athletic Love - Teams of two relatives must cross swinging balance beams in 60 seconds.
  • Bamboo Derby - The competitor must complete an obstacle course while walking on stilts.
  • Banzai 90 - Teams of 6 must throw 4 of their teammates onto padded logs.
  • Daruma 7 - The competitor must use a hammer to knock between six and seven flat cylindrical blocks from the bottom of a tower in order to keep the "daruma" at the top from falling to the ground. Later the tower was increased to nine blocks (Super Daruma) and also in a downwards cone (Daruma 7 Ace).
  • Extra Kendama - The competitor must complete three tasks with a giant kendama toy in 60 seconds.
  • Giant Ball - The competitor must ride a giant ball through an obstacle course. This may be the hardest of all challenges, as not even the designer of the event could clear the fourth obstacle.
  • Hand Walk - The competitor must complete an obstacle course while walking on their hands. This is one of Kinniku Banzuke's most notable events.
  • Kangaroo - The competitor must complete an obstacle course while hopping on a pogo stick. Usually children compete in this event.
  • Kick Target - A soccer player appears on the show and must kick at nine targets in twelve chances.
  • Like a Pierrot - The competitor must complete an obstacle course while riding on a unicycle. This event has had the most versions (six) and most kanzenseihas (eight).
  • Nakama - Teams of two are attached by a bungee cord and must complete nine obstacles without dragging the other off course.
  • Neko de Drive - Teams of a man and a woman compete in an obstacle course where the woman rides on a wheelbarrow driven by the man.
  • Ottoto 9 - The competitor must balance a 10 foot pole on two fingers while navigating the pole through nine obstacles.
  • Quick Muscle - The competitor must do as many pushups as they can within 3 minutes.
  • Spider Walk - The competitor must prop themselves on two parallel walls and cross a series of obstacles, including turns and climbs.
  • Sponge Bridge - The competitor must walk across three sets (green, yellow, and red) of styrofoam boards that may topple over.
  • Spray Hitter Bingo - A baseball hitter appears on the show and swings at nine targets.
  • Strong Mama - All competitors are women. They must complete nine challenges, the first five must be completed in 60
  • Struck Out - A baseball pitcher appears on the show and throws from the pitcher's mound at nine targets.
  • Super Helico - The competitor must fly a remote control plane through nine obstacles.
  • Super Rider - The competitor must ride a bicycle through a series of obstacles. This event is similar to "trial biking" and as a result many trial bikers competed.
  • Trampoline - The competitor must jump off of a trampoline and land on a stack of short cylindrical blocks. This was broken into three stages, and all competitors take on the First Stage before anyone takes on the Second Stage, etc.
  • Untouchable - Four competitors take part in a single elimination tournament where they must grab two light sticks from the competitor's ankles and/or back.

Concepts Used In SASUKE

Many obstacles, events, and concepts were reused for the SASUKE tournament, which itself was a spinoff of SASUKE.

  • Deadly Hammers - This obstacle was used in many events and was later recycled into the Goren Hammer. It was based off of the version used in Like a Pierrot IV.
  • Spider Walk - This was both an event in Banzuke and an obstacle in SASUKE. In the first four SASUKE's the Spider Walk was very long and similar to the event, but it was shortened for SASUKE 5.
  • Stage system - This was used in the Trampoline event and later in SASUKE.
