After a seven year hiatus after KUNOICHI 11, KUNOICHI 12 (officially, 「KUNOICHI2025」) was officially announced by TBS on October 18, 2024 on the official SASUKE website and Twitter and aired on January 13, 2025 at 6:30pm JST with a time slot of approximately three hours (though it was initially reported to be two hours and fifty minutes). This was the fourth tournament after Komiya Rie's and Kadoi Satomi's kanzenseiha.
This tournament introduced a brand new KUNOICHI's logo, which has a similar design to the current SASUKE logo used since SASUKE 36. Also, the words "WOMEN'S SASUKE" were used, officially acknowledging the fact that KUNOICHI is the best known sport variety special spin off from SASUKE for women competitors.
Applications[]
TBS officially released the application on October 18, 2024, on the official SASUKE website. The application deadline was slated on November 4, 2024.
Filming[]
According to the TBS's news page, the taping took place on November 30, 2024 across all stages with the morning sessions only available for the First Stage to attend.
Summary[]
For starters, the names for the first three stages was reverted back to the original names that were used in the first eight tournaments of KUNOICHI, albeit the color scheme for those stages were still used.
In the First Stage, the Screwdriver which was introduced in SASUKE 42 appeared to replace both the Pipe Hold and Shaking Bridge, while the Cannon Ball was removed to make room for the second wall of the Ni Ren Soritatsu Kabe, thus the number of obstacles were reduced to five, the lowest in KUNOICHI history. The time limit was reduced to 100 seconds. Despite that, the course was very brutal, as the first 38 competitors failed until Sakai Tamaki cleared it at 14,70 seconds left. Gradually, there were five more competitors who could clear the stage and move on to Second Stage. One of them are Mizuno Yuko, who completed it since 2006. As such, a total of six competitors completed the First Stage, tied with KUNOICHI 5 and KUNOICHI 10.
In the Second Stage, the Rolling Log which was introduced in SASUKE 37 appeared to replace the Slide Walk, and the Goren Hammer was removed. As a side note, the Spider Walk was renamed to Spider Run due to the copyright dispute. However, due to the time limit were kept the same and the number of obstacles were reduced to four, all six competitors cleared the Second Stage without any problem, thus the first time the Second Stage has a 100% clear rate in KUNOICHI's history.
In the Third Stage, the Arm Bike was replaced by the Sidewinder, and both the Planet Bridge and Pipe Slider were replaced by the Flying Bar. The Sidewinder knocked out Tsuboi Honami and shockingly, Mizuno Yūko, the Sponge Bridge took out Sakai Tamaki and Watanabe Mai, while Mori Hikaru failed at the Flying Bar. Only Oshima Ayano was able to complete the stage and advance to the Final Stage, becoming the first to do so since the previous tournament.
The Final Stage's obstacles remained the same from the previous tournament, except the Tsuna Nobori's height was increased from 5 meters to 5.2 meters. Oshima Ayano has a fast pace at the Spider Climb and reached the Tsuna Nobori at over 20 seconds left and completed the stage with 8.97 seconds left, becoming the fourth competitor in KUNOICHI to achieve Kanzenseiha after a sixteen year drought.
