Jūnidantobi (十二段跳び), called Twelve Timbers in English broadcasts, was a First Stage obstacle that debuted in SASUKE 23 as the first obstacle. It is similar to Godantobi and Rokudantobi in that competitors must jump across twelve steps, five on the left, six on the right, and one landing step, in order to made it across to the finishing platform. Unlike Godantobi and Rokudantobi, the steps were created with logs packed slightly closer together with each log angled at a different incline to increase the difficulty.

Even though Godantobi and Rokudantobi were called Quintuple Step and Sextuple Step, respectively, in English broadcasts, this obstacle interestingly didn't follow the pattern by not being called Duodecuple Step. Some have noted a confusion over there only being eleven logs despite jūni (十二) being the number for twelve in Japanese. However, similar to Godantobi and Rokudantobi, the platform competitors land on to complete the obstacle is counted as being a 'step' to cross in the name.

It eliminated a fair number of competitors due to the angle differences, however, due to Urushihara Yuuji's Kanzenseiha, it was replaced by Dome Steps in SASUKE 25.

American Ninja Warrior 5's Timbers in Stage One

Jūnidantobi appeared as the first obstacle in Stage One on American Ninja Warrior 5, replacing Step Slider from the previous season, but was only called Timbers. Compared to the Jūnidantobi:

  • There were only eight steps instead of eleven,
  • The steps had greater gaps in between, and
  • All the steps were angled the same way in this version, similar to Godantobi or Rokudantobi.

On American Ninja Warrior 6, it was replaced by Piston Road.
