The Jumping Spider (ジャンピングスパイダー) was an obstacle introduced with the course redesign after Nagano Makoto's kanzenseiha in SASUKE 17. The objective of the Jumping Spider was a hybrid of the Spider Walk and the Jump Hang. The competitor must jump from a trampoline into a shaft of parallel walls 150cm apart and they must traverse by wedging themselves in between and crawling through. This obstacle has proven to be one of the hardest obstacles in the Shin-SASUKE First Stage, and has eliminated every SASUKE All-Star except Akiyama Kazuhiko. The obstacle has been changed multiple times in the seven tournaments that it has been in the First Stage, throwing off competitors each time. The jumping spider is an obstacle where the first and the last competitors to attempt it.

SASUKE 18 Version

The first version of this obstacle was rather basic. Competitors had a relatively long run up to the trampoline compared to later versions. Also, the walls were placed directly above the trampoline, so competitors only needed to jump straight up in order to stick on the walls. Thus, it was the easiest of the versions.

SASUKE 19 Version

By far the hardest version of the Jumping Spider. To make the obstacle harder for the competitors, the producers raised the walls and put it farther from the trampoline. In addition, the run up to the obstacle was severely shortened. In order to pass this obstacle, competitors needed great agility and had to hit the trampoline perfectly in order to gain enough distance to reach the walls. Because of the extreme difficulty, it was just a challenge trying to reach the walls, let alone stick to them. This obstacle proved deadly for many, as it took 39 people to fail before Okuyama Yoshiyuki finally passed it.

SASUKE 20-SASUKE 24

Because of SASUKE 19's extreme difficulty, the producers toned down the Jumping Spider in order to make it a little easier for the competitors to pass. To do this, they moved the walls vertically down so it was same height as the SASUKE 18 version but also the same distance away from the trampoline as the SASUKE 19 version. While more people are able to clear, the obstacle is still a very dangerous obstacle in the First Stage. Now, success comes more if the competitor can stay on the walls. After Urushihara Yuuji's Kanzenseiha the obstacle was removed and replaced with the much easier Bridge Jump.
