John Mack is a college student from South Jordan, Utah. Due to being one of the tallest competitors on the show at 6'5 and having a 82 inch wingspan, he is nicknamed "The Reach"
American Ninja Warrior 13[]
He first competed as a rookie during the last qualifying episode. His run was cut, but he managed to clear the course in 10th place despite missing the Mega Wall. He later competed in the last semifinals episode. His run there was digested, but he failed on the eighth obstacle, the Crazy Clocks, ending his rookie season.
American Ninja Warrior 14[]
He returned for his second season, once again competing during the last qualifying episode. This time around, he run the course in memory for his father, who tragically committed suicide when he was thirteen. He once again cleared the course, this time doing so with the fastest time that episode. Additionally, he also got up the Mega Wall, winning $10,000. He later competed in the second semifinals episode. His run there was digested, but he failed on the fifth obstacle this time around, going out on Hopscotch, once again ending his season during the semifinals.
American Ninja Warrior 16[]
John returned in the seventh qualifier of season 16. His run was digested, but he was one of many to fail Duck Duck Goose, marking his first time failing a qualifying course. He still placed 7th overall, once again moving on to the semifinals. John later competed in the last semifinal episode, racing against Josh Miller. It was a close race, but John ended up beating Josh to the buzzer by .07 seconds. He placed 2nd overall, earning a chance to get the Safety Pass racing against Sam Folsom. In the Safety Pass race, they were neck and neck for most the race, until John failed on Spin Hopper after he attempted to skip the first handle, giving Sam the Safety Pass. Nevertheless, John still advanced to the national finals for his first time.
In the national finals, John had a solid run on Stage One, using his height to his advantage on certain obstacles. He was the first competitor shown to clear Stage One, doing so with 10.11 seconds left.
John later raced against Kyle Soderman on Stage Two. The race was digested, but John lost the race after falling on Jawbreakers while Kyle made it to the Falling Shelves, ending his best season to date.
American Ninja Warrior 17[]
John returned in season 17 on the second episode of qualifying. His run was digested, but it was shown that his run ended up early as he failed just the third obstacle, the Log Runner. This ultimately marked his first time in his career failing to advance past qualifying.
He later revealed on Instagram that he was not focused and his doubts, fears, and anxiety took control and he let the fear of failure overwhelm him, and he also cracked a couple of ribs during his fall on Log Runner.
John is set to compete in American Ninja Warrior 18.
