Iron Grip is a team on American Ninja Warrior's team competition franchise. Captain Daniel Gil has been the only constant member throughout all the team's appearances. Other members have included Barclay Stockett, Mathis Owhadi, Nate Burkhalter, Richelle Hepler, Sam Sann, Scott Wilson, and Tiana Webberley. The team name comes from the fact that all the members have strong grips that can endure.
Team Ninja Warrior[]
Iron Grip made their first appearance in Team Ninja Warrior with Daniel recruiting Sam Sann and Richelle Hepler for the roster. they first competed in Episode 5 against Lab Rats:
- Sam Sann fell on the Dancing Stones and lost the first race against Chris Wilczewski,
- Richelle Hepler lost the second race against Michelle Warnky,
- But Daniel Gil won the anchor run against Brian Wilczewski,
- Daniel also won the sudden death race against Chris.
In the knockout round, they went up against the Ninja Brittens:
- Sam lost the first race against Dustin McKinney,
- Richelle did however win the second race against Jessica Britten, and
- Daniel won the anchor run against Geoff.
They proceeded to the relay showdown but lost the race against the Lab Rats and got eliminated.
Team Ninja Warrior 2[]
Daniel Gil overhauled his team for Team Ninja Warrior 2. He replaced Sam and Richelle with Nate Burkhalter and Barclay Stockett. They first competed in Episode 3 where they went up against the Lab Rats again:
- Nate fell on the Floating Tiles and lost the first race against Chris Wilczewski,
- Barclay lost the second race against Michelle Warnky,
- But Daniel won the anchor run against Brian Wilczewski,
- Daniel and Brian had a rematch but Daniel fell on the Ring of Fire and lost the race.
They went up against Phoenix Force in Round 2:
- Nate won the first race against Dan Galiczynski,
- Daniel won the second race against Najee Richardson, and
- Barclay won the anchor run against Cassie Craig who fell on the Swing Jump.
They proceeded to the relay showdown where they had a rematch against the Lab Rats. During the race, both Daniel and Brian were out of gas by the time they both hit the Invisible Ladder, as a result, Daniel and Brian both fell on the Invisible Ladder, but Daniel was the first to reach the obstacle and Iron Grip moved on to the finals this time.
In the finals, Iron Grip competed against Storm Team in Episode 10:
- Nate dislocated his right shoulder on the Floating Tiles and lost the first race against Josh Levin,
- Barclay went inverted on the Tire Swing and won the second race against Allyssa Beird,
- But Daniel lost the anchor run against Joe Moravsky.
They went up against Team Ronin in Round 2:
- Nate's alternate Scott Wilson won the first race against JJ Woods,
- Barclay won the second race against Tiana Webberley, and
- Daniel won the anchor run against Flip Rodriguez.
Iron Grip then proceeded to the relay showdown where despite the fact that they were neck and neck with Storm Team during the race, they lost and were eliminated from the competition.
American Ninja Warrior: Ninja Vs. Ninja[]
Iron Grip returned to compete in the spin-off, American Ninja Warrior: Ninja vs. Ninja. However, Tiana Webberley and Mathis Owhadi replaced Barclay Stockett and Nate Burkhalter. This revamped team first competed in Episode 7 against the InvincAbels:
- Mathis Owhadi won the first race against Victor Juarez,
- Tiana fell on the Criss Cross Ring Toss and lost the second race against Marybeth Wang,
- But Daniel won the third race against Abel Gonzalez,
- Iron Grip did win the relay race against the InvincAbels.
They then faced the Lizard Kings in Round 2:
- Mathis Owhadi lost the first race against Hunter Guerard,
- In the second race Tiana and Sarah Schoback both fell at the Flying Shelf Grab. However, Sarah reached the obstacle first, therefore Tiana lost the race,
- Daniel did however win the third race against Kyle Soderman,
- Then in the first relay, Sarah fell at the Tick Tock, Kyle fell at the Floating Tiles and Hunter fell on the Salmon Ladder which gave Iron Grip another win.
- Iron Grip also won the knockout relay and moved on to the playoffs.
Iron Grip competed in Episode 12 they first went up against the Beasts from the East in Round 1:
- Mathis fell on the Hanging Staircase and lost the first race against Dave Cavanagh,
- Tiana won the second race against Erica Cook,
- Daniel won the third race against James McGrath,
- The team won the relay race that followed.
Going up against The Golden Hearts in Round 2:
- Both Mathis and Grant McCartney fell on the Zig Zag Climb but Mathis was the first to reach the obstacle and won the first point,
- In the second race, Tiana fell on the Floating Tiles and lost against Natalie Duran,
- Daniel won the third race against Neil Craver,
- The team also won the relay race that followed and Iron Grip moved on to the finals.
In Episode 16, Iron Grip competed against Team Ronin in Round 1:
- Mathis won the first race against JJ Woods,
- Tiana Webberley lost the second race against Meagan Martin,
- Daniel Gil lost the third race against Flip Rodriguez,
- But during the first relay race, Flip fell on the Wingnuts resulting in a 5-second penalty on JJ. And then Daniel beat JJ to the buzzer by 0.6 seconds tying the score up 2-2,
- But Iron Grip lost the second relay race as Mathis Owhadi fell on the Floating Tiles and the team got eliminated from the competition.
