ANW15 Greased Lightning

American Ninja Warrior 15's Greased Lightning

The Greased Lightning is an obstacle, firstly introduced as the second obstacle in the first qualifier episode on American Ninja Warrior 15, and later appeared during the third, fourth and seventh qualifier episode.

Competitors must hold onto a pair of nunchucks and ride it down a slightly steeped track, with two drops that would test the grip strength of the competitors. As the nunchucks slide down the track, there would be tendencies where the end of the chain with the most weight distributed would lengthen while the other side would shorten, similar to how the mechanism for Chain See-Saw from SASUKE 27 worked.

This obstacle proved to be brutal in all of its appearances, eliminating Ninjas like Jack Wright, James Wright, Miles Avery, Jaelyn Bennett, Michael Pericoloso, Kyndal McKenzie, Diego Bressant, Glenn Albright, and Riley Porter. Many competitors failed to keep their grip along the track, but some others failed to dismount the obstacle in time, leaving them stuck in the middle of the track when it rebounded back.

It proved to be especially brutal in the fourth episode of qualifying, eliminating a total of 13 competitors that round. Some of which included: Lance Pekus, Ginny MacColl, Jeri D'Aurelio, Jaleesa Himka, Joel Neeb, Evan Perperis, Glenn Davis, Lisa Hair, and in his final ANW appearance, Brandon Mears. This was due to the fact that a significant storm was taking place in Los Angeles at the time of filming. Hence, there were more failures in that particular round as the nunchuks was less supported.

Other Appearances[]

Ninja Warrior Germany[]

In Ninja Warrior Germany 9, Greased Lightning, locally known as Blitz-Rutsche (literally Lightning Slide), will make its first international appearance and will serve as the second obstacle during the final two Preliminary Rounds. Here, the obstacle had a minor difference compared to its original, namely the fact that the baton-shaped holds of the pair of nunchucks got replaced with cone-shpaed holds.
