Bamboo Derby is a series of events in Kinniku Banzuke.
In this event competitors are challenged to complete a short, otherwise simple course, with the twist that the competitor must navigate the entire course on stilts.
Abandoning the stilts, falling off of the course, or touching the course floor with anything other than the stilts will result in disqualification.
Bamboo Derby I[]
The first challenge consisted of 9 obstacles.
Checkerboard - A short area covered by a set of ropes arranged in square patterns, as such that the competitor will have to lift their stilts over and between the ropes carefully to progress. The ropes were attached to a rectangle not built into the course, meaning the obstacle could be moved further back or forward if required. (the change in position is visible clearly between runs in certain airings.)
Stepping Stones - A set of increasingly small square platforms which the competitor must walk across without touching the soft floor around.
Stairs - A short ascending set of steps.
Suspension Bridge - A short bridge hung by its four corners that will sway wildly under the competitor's stilts.
Down Staircase - A short descending set of stairs with variation in the width, elevation and length of each step.
Hall of Hammers - A set of four swinging hammers; a concept later used for the Goren Hammer in SASUKE.
Water Trench - A zig-zagging set of three wooden planks laid in a shallow pool of water. Stepping in the water and not on the planks will result in disqualification.
Log Pile - A stack of cut wooden logs competitors must ascend like stairs.
S-Curve - A recurring obstacle across various Banzuke events; a very thin path that curves into an 'S' shape.
