ANW6 Double Tilt Ladder

American Ninja Warrior 6's Double Tilt Ladder in St. Louis

The Double Tilt Ladder is an obstacle, firstly introduced as the fifth obstacle on American Ninja Warrior 6 in St. Louis.

It consisted of two sets of suspended tilting monkey bars; each set is 10.5 feet (3.2 meters) long with eight rungs. On this obstacle:

  • Competitors must use their hands to move up the first set of monkey bars until their weight causes it to tilt, allowing them to continue down to the end.
  • Once at the end of the first set of monkey bars, they must swing 6 feet (1.83 meters) to the second set and navigate it just as they did the first.
  • At the end of the second set of monkey bars, they must swing to the landing mat.

The obstacle wiped out a fair number of competitors during St. Louis qualifiers, including Michael Silenzi, Jim Steffen, Ronald Schmidt, and Oleg Ossayenko. However, no competitors failed on it during St. Louis finals.

A similarly made obstacle to this one was used as part of American Ninja Warrior 11's Power Tower at the end of each semi-finals episode.

American Ninja Warrior 7[]

ANW7 Double Tilt Ladder

American Ninja Warrior 7's Double Tilt Ladder in Orlando

The Double Tilt Ladder returned on American Ninja Warrior 7 in Orlando, once again as the fifth obstacle. However, the obstacle had been modified with each ladder being 10-foot long, the first ladder had eight rungs, while the second ladder had six rungs (in St. Louis on the previous season, the first and second ladders both have eight rungs). Each rung was spaced 18 inches apart, with the exception of the second-to-last and the last rung of the second ladder, which was 26 inches apart. The gap between the first and second ladder was reduced slightly to 5ft. Because of that, competitors must make a jump from the first ladder to the second ladder (similar to the Jumping Bars). In addition, unlike on the previous season where the ladder would tilt at the middle, it tilted once the competitors reached towards the end. Finally, there was a gap between the seventh and eighth rungs of the first ladder.

This time, the obstacle dealt more damage, as it claimed competitors like Marybeth Wang, Asya Grechka, Idoko Abuh, Ricky Vu, Mitch VeDepo, Matthew Schumann (who completed it twice during St. Louis qualifiers and finals on the previous season), and Sean Clayton. It is worth noting that during Orlando qualifiers, no female competitors could get past this obstacle this time around. It later wiped out Matthew Schumann during Orlando finals, who failed on the same obstacle during Orlando qualifiers.
