ANW6 Doorknob Arch

American Ninja Warrior 6's Doorknob Arch in Denver

The Doorknob Arch is an obstacle, firstly introduced as the ninth obstacle on American Ninja Warrior 6 during Denver finals.

It consists of 24 doorknobs placed on an arch. Competitors must use their upper body to traverse the doorknobs until they were close enough to make the dismount to the landing platform.

This obstacle had a similar function with the Doorknob Grasper, except the doorknobs did not rotate, along with the different type of doorknobs.

During Denver finals, among the 14 competitors who attempted the obstacle, six of them could complete it (Paul Kasemir, Brian Arnold, Ian Dory, Noah Kaufman, Isaac Caldiero, and Jon Stewart) and the course altogether.

Other Season Appearances[]

American Ninja Warrior 7[]

The Doorknob Arch returned on American Ninja Warrior 7 as the ninth obstacle during Pittsburgh finals. However, the number of doorknobs was increased to 28.

This time, among the seven competitors who attempted it, only three of them could complete it (Jamie Rahn, Geoff Britten, and Joe Moravsky). Despite that, the completion rate of the obstacle during Pittsburgh finals was identical as during Denver finals on the previous season. As an additional note, this obstacle alongside the Devil Steps were the only two obstacles which were in the same course in two consecutive seasons.

American Ninja Warrior 17[]

After a ten-season hiatus, Doorknob Arch returned as the ninth obstacle during the first two rounds of the semifinals in American Ninja Warrior 17. The doorknobs were decreased this time to 27 and 6 of them rotated. Unlike this obstacle's previous appearances, the rotating doorknobs were delineated with a blue circle around them and it has been said at the halfway point that competitors are 20 feet above the water.

This obstacle was quite easy: out of 17 competitors who attempted it during the first round of the semifinals, only two failed here, Bray Weinacker and Karsten Williams. The techniques that competitors used to clear this obstacle (skipping doorknobs, switching their grips as they attempted the descent, and avoiding the spinning doorknobs) were the identical tactics used in earlier competitions.

During the second round of the semifinals, 16 competitors attempted the obstacle, and once again only two failed there: Evan White and Alex Nye.

Other Appearances[]

In several international SASUKE/Ninja Warrior formats, the Doorknob Arch would usually be modified to take the form of the Giant Pegboard. This trend seemed to have started with Ninja Warrior France.

Team Ninja Warrior[]

The Doorknob Arch appeared during Team Ninja Warrior as the fifth obstacle during the fifth episode. It was extremely easy as only Chris Wilczewski from Lab Rats failed the obstacle in a sudden death matchup.

Ninja Warrior France[]

Ninja Warrior France 4's Doorknob Arch

On Ninja Warrior France 4, the Doorknob Arch, locally called La Grande Roue (literally The Great Wheel) appeared as the fourth obstacle in Crossroads' Route A during Qualification 1 and 3. The obstacle has several differences compared to American Ninja Warrior 6:

  • The arch was replaced by the giant ring board, which looks like the board used in the Giant Pegboard event of American Ninja Warrior: All Stars Special. Also, the board was tilted forwards instead of being vertical.
  • The number of doorknobs has been reduced to 16, which two doorknobs in each white part and three doorknobs in each red part.

The obstacle was paired with Grim Sweeper as part of Route B of the Crossroads. The doorknobs were also revealed to be 50cm apart, with the highest knob being 5m above water.
