Devin Harrelson is a Tattoo Artist from Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, who is best known for his nickname “Dougie Fresh". He is also well-known on the course for his signature gold clothing and neon light-up shoes.
American Ninja Warrior 7[]
Dougie first competed in Orlando in American Ninja Warrior 7. For his first season, Harrelson had high hopes to go all the way to stage 4 and propose to his girlfriend, Kelley. Unfortunately, he failed the fourth obstacle, the Tire Swing in qualifying. This performance wasn’t good enough to advance to the city finals.
American Ninja Warrior 8[]
Dougie returned to compete in Atlanta in American Ninja Warrior 8 but he winded up going out early on the first obstacle, the Floating Steps, in qualifying.
American Ninja Warrior 9[]
Dougie returned to compete in Kansas City in American Ninja Warrior 9 where he got his revenge on the Floating Steps and let out all of his anger. He made it to the Warped Wall but he didn’t get enough traction on each of the attempts that he tried to scale it. He placed 11th overall and for the first time in his career, he was able to advance to the city finals.
His run in the city finals was digested, but it was shown that he unfortunately failed the Floating Steps again, placing 35th in the city finals.
American Ninja Warrior 10[]
Dougie made his fourth straight appearance in American Ninja Warrior 10, where he competed in Miami. Harrelson's run was digested, but it was shown that he beat the Floating Steps again and was very close to finishing only to fail the Slippery Summit. Harrelson placed 28th overall and made his second straight appearance in the city finals.
In the city finals, it was revealed Harrelson was running for one of his best friends, Chris “Smitty” Smith, who passed away from a recent car crash. He made it past the first obstacle in the city finals this time, but failed one obstacle later on the Cannonball Drop. He once again didn't qualify for Vegas, placing 30th overall in the city finals.
American Ninja Warrior 11[]
Dougie returned to complete in Atlanta in American Ninja Warrior 11, after he fractured his skull in a training accident. His qualifying run was digested, but it was shown that he once again failed the 5th obstacle, this time being the Ferris Wheel. His time to the obstacle placed him 30th overall and he made it to the city finals for the third year in a row.
In the city finals, he made an impressive run where after going out on the first two obstacles the past seasons, he managed to complete the fifth obstacle, the Ferris Wheel. From there, he completed the Warped Wall for the first time and faced the back-half of the city finals course. He later failed the eighth obstacle, Up for Grabs. Although he placed 16th at the end of the night and didn't make it fast enough to advance, he still put up his best run to date.
American Ninja Warrior 12[]
Dougie competed in qualifying and failed the Ferris Wheel once again. He still placed 11th and moved on. In the Semi Finals, he sadly couldn't get revenge on the Ferris Wheel, but he did just as good as he did last season as he made it to the 8th obstacle once again. He couldn't make the second transition on Corkscrew. He sadly got eliminated by Joe Moravsky and placed 13th.
American Ninja Warrior 13[]
Dougie competed in the third qualifying episode. His run was digested, but it was shown that he failed Pretzel Twist, making it the fourth consecutive time that he failed the fifth obstacle in qualifying. Once again, his qualified for the semifinals by placing 15th overall. He later competed in the second semifinals episode. His run was once again digested, but it looked like he was on his way to qualify for his first trip to the national finals. But on the Salmon Ladder, he went for the "Wilczewski Whip" and ended up falling there. He placed 25th overall and saw his season end in the semifinals for the fifth consecutive time.
American Ninja Warrior 14[]
Dougie competed in the first qualifying episode. This time around, his run was cut from the broadcast, but he revealed on his instagram that he failed the new 4th obstacle, Carnival after he dropped the ball into the water and missing on the transition to the cliffhanger ledge, meaning that he didn't advance to the semifinals for the first time since ANW 8.
Trivia[]
- He is the second competitor to attempt the “Wilczewski Whip” on the Salmon Ladder, other being Leif Sundberg. Neither of them succeeded, unlike the competitor it was inspired by, Chris Wilczewski.
