The Climb Board (クライムボード) was the second obstacle in the KUNOICHI 2009 Final Stage. It was somewhat similar to the Kabe Nobori, an obstacle which was used in SASUKE 1 and SASUKE 2, and could be seen as an upgraded version of sorts to the Dai Zeppeki of KUNOICHI 2006 Summer, albeit being shorter by three meters.
The obstacle consisted of two walls that were side-by-side, with the first wall consisting of diagonally-aligned bricks, and the second one using rock-climbing artifacts, with the two walls together totaling a 7-meter climb. Competitors, after completing the brick-climbing wall, would have to transfer sideways to the rock-climbing wall in a manner similar to the Orugōru, before climbing this wall to hit the buzzer and achieve Kanzenseiha. If the competitors should touch the sides of the walls at any point, they would be disqualified.
Despite the fact that the obstacle was indeed a difficult concept in theory, the rather lenient time limit of 60 seconds, as well as the relative easiness of the preceding obstacle (the Tetsu Bashi), ensured that all three of the competitors who attempted the Climb Board (Komiya Rie, Arimatsu Tomomi and Kadoi Satomi) were able to climb it up in time.
However, Arimatsu Tomomi then got disqualified for this obstacle in the end after a VTR-check of her run revealed that she had touched the left side of the second section of the Climb Board during her attempt.
It was removed for KUNOICHI 2017 Spring, being replaced by a 7-meter variant of the more iconic Tsuna Nobori from the regular SASUKE course.
An similar obstacle, called Speed Climbing later appeared as the first obstacle during the Final Stage since SASUKE 39.
Trivia[]
- Originally, the Climb Board was the lone obstacle of KUNOICHI 2009 Final Stage, as shown via multiple scenes on broadcast, with 5 boards were placed left-right alternatively, with the first two having horizontal bricks akin to the Dai Zeppeki, the next two having diagonal bricks, and the final board having rock-climbing artifacts. However, at some point after the First Stage had finished, the first 3 boards were removed and replaced by Tetsu Bashi.
