The Burn Out Guys (バーナウトガイズ) was an event introduced in the ninth Celebrity Survival Battle in 9th Celebrity Sportsman No. 1. It was intended as a spiritual successor to Work Out Guys, another iconic Sportsman event.
The event itself involves two competitors engaging in a course that involves three different kinds of speed-related stations. The qualifying times of the competitors who managed to clear the course would then be ranked after the heats finished and the competitor with the fastest time would become the No. 1 of the event.
Compared to Work Out Guys, there is no time limit involved throughout the course.
The record for the fastest clear in Burn Out Guys is Kinoshita Noriaki tallying a record of 54.11 seconds in 2007.
This event would appear in four Pro Sportsman Tournaments and five Celebrity Survival Battles.
Stations[]
Throughout its appearances in Sportsman, there has been a total of six different stations that made an appearance throughout its lifetime.
Slalom Run[]
This station involves a series of switches that vary in height arranged on the sides of the track, with the button being placed at the farther end of the track. Competitors must flick the switches alternately from right to left, once they managed to activate all switches which are indicated when a bulb lights up, they must run over to activate the button before proceeding to the next station.
Every switch must be activated and if competitors missed any switch, it will force a competitor to go back and activate it before being allowed to continue, similar to what happened to Bobby Ologun in Pro Sportsman No. 1 2005.
Sit-Ups[]
This station involves competitors doing a series of sit-ups, requiring them to meet a number of sit-ups before proceeding to the next station. For a sit-up to count, competitors must place their chins to the top of the sensors properly. This led to some instances where some of the sit-ups would not count by the sensors, costing them time to complete the station.
Competitors would typically complete 30 sit-ups in the station but during Pro Sportsman No. 1 2005, it was decreased to 20 due to the introduction of the Push Up station.
Ascending Monkey Bars[]
This event involves competitors climbing a set of inclined monkey bars ten metres in length that was placed at an incline to a platform that leads to the buzzer that will complete their run in the event.
Compared to other stations, once competitors failed this station, their run will be declared as a "Did Not Finish (DNF)" and no points will be awarded to the competitors who fell.
Side Jump Run[]
This station involves a series of small platforms arranged on the sides of the track, with a button being placed at the farther end of the track. Competitors must jump on one platform to the center and jump to the next platform alternately from right to left, once they managed to jump onto every platform, they must run over to activate the button before proceeding to the next station.
Circular Shuttle Run[]
This station involves 12 switches arranged in a circle that is 5 meters in diameter. Competitors must flick the switches with the proceeding ones being across the circle. Once they complete activating all of the 12 switches, they can proceed to the next station. The switches are numbered which can also guide competitors in which ones they must activate next.
Push Ups[]
This station involves competitors doing a series of push-ups, requiring them to meet a number of push-ups before proceeding to the next station. For a push-up to count, competitors must place their chins to the top of the sensors properly. This led to some instances where some of the push-ups would not count by the sensors, costing them time to complete the station.
This station is similar to that of Quick Muscle, a known Sportsman and Kinniku Banzuke event.
