Australian Ninja Warrior: State of Origin was the first Australian Ninja Warrior's domestic team competition, which premiered on August 16th, 2020 at Channel 9 (shortly after Australian Ninja Warrior 4's season finale).
There were five teams competing on this competition, each with four competitors. Each team represented different states of Australia and featured three male competitors and one female competitor.
The competition was run over in two episodes, with the first episode being served for the qualifying and the second episode being served for the finals. The qualifying featured four rounds, while the finals featured three rounds.
During the qualifying:
in Round One: all members from each of the five teams would compete on a relay race. If a competitor fell on any obstacle, his/her team's run ended. The team who completed the course (or made the furthest, in case of no team was able to complete the course) in the fastest time would automatically advance to the finals, while the other four teams would compete in Round Two.
in Round Two: two members from each of the remaining four teams would compete on a relay race. Just like in Round One, if a competitor fell on any obstacle, his/her team's run ended. The team who completed the course (or made the furthest, in case of no team was able to complete the course) in the fastest time would automatically advance to the finals, while the other three teams would compete in Round Three.
in Round Three: one member from each of the remaining three teams would compete, in which only the competitor who did not compete in Round Two was allowed to compete in this round. The competitor who completed the course (or made the furthest, in case of no competitor was able to complete the course) in the fastest time would automatically send his/her team to the finals, while the other two teams would compete in Round Four.
in Round Four: one member from each of the remaining two teams would compete on the Power Tower. The first competitor to complete the obstacle and hit the buzzer would send his/her team to the finals, while the losing team would be eliminated from the competition.
During the finals:
in Round One: each of the remaining four teams would be divided into two pairs. Each pair would be working together to complete as many obstacles as possible (once again in a relay race format), which would then combine the team's total score. The team who completed the least number of obstacles would be eliminated from the competition (in case of a tie for the last place, the team who did so in the slowest time would be eliminated from the competition), while the other three teams would advance to Round Two.
in Round Two: all members from each of the remaining three teams would compete on a relay race. However, unlike during the first two rounds of the qualifying, if a competitor fell on any obstacle, his/her next teammate would continue the relay. The team who completed the least number of obstacles would be eliminated from the competition (in case of a tie for the last place, the team who did so in the slowest time would be eliminated from the competition), while the other two teams would advance to Round Three.
in Round Three: one member from each of the remaining two teams would compete on the Power Tower. The first competitor to complete the obstacle and hit the buzzer would win the competition and receive the cash prize of AU$100,000 for his/her team.
