Australian Ninja Warrior: Record Breakers 2 is the second edition of Australian Ninja Warrior's special episode, featuring top competitors attempting to break a record in supersized obstacles (a very similar concept to the Skills Competition on American Ninja Warrior: All Stars Special/All Star Spectacular). The show premiered on July 12th, 2022 on Channel 9 (shortly after Australian Ninja Warrior 6's season finale).

Competition Format[]

There were five events in this competition, four of them have appeared during Skills Competition on American Ninja Warrior: All Stars Special/All Star Spectacular:

  • Super Salmon Ladder,
  • Soaring Sonic Shelf Grab,
  • Spring Forward Face-off (new event for this season),
  • Big Dipper Freestyle Challenge (new event for this season), and
  • Rising Mega Warped Wall.

In each event, the winning competitor would receive the cash prize of AU$15,000 (AU$75,000 cash prize in total).

Events[]

Super Salmon Ladder[]

The obstacle consisted of a supersized version of the Salmon Ladder, with 35 rungs and about four stories in height, and taking place at the Stage Four tower.

Each competitor tried to reach the highest rung as possible. Whoever reached the highest rung, he/she would be the champion. However, if there were at least two competitors who could reach the highest rung, the competitor who reached it in the fastest time would be the champion.

Competitors[]

Fred Dorrington
Daniel Mason
Saxon Johnstone
Zak Stolz (Super Salmon Ladder's champion from the previous season)

Results[]

Name Result Notes

Saxon Johnstone 35th rung Reached the top of the ladder in 43.48 seconds.
Zak Stolz 2nd rung
Australian Ninja Warrior: Record Breakers 2's Super Salmon Ladder champion: Saxon Johnstone

Soaring Sonic Shelf Grab[]

The obstacle consisted of a supersized version of the Flying Shelf Grab, with a much larger distance between the shelves, requiring competitors to build a much bigger swing and momentum to make the transition from the first shelf to the second shelf.

The competition worked in an elimination fashion. Each competitor was given just one attempt to clear the obstacle in required distance. If they could complete it, they would move on the next round (with the distance between the shelves being made larger in the next round). If they couldn't complete it, they would be eliminated from the competition. The competition continued until only one competitor could clear the required distance in any round or the remaining competitors in any round failed to clear the required distance.

This event once again attempted to break the current Ninja Warrior world record for the same event at that time set by Drew Drechsel on American Ninja Warrior: All Stars Special 2, at 15 feet (4.57 meters) in distance.

Spring Forward Face-off[]

The obstacle consisted of a supersized version of the Spring Forward.

Each competitor must climb up a rope and swing across six bars in a straight line that were connected to a spring at the end. They then must swing to a static bar before going back the way they came from. From there, they grabbed a rope, swung back, and finally reached and hit the buzzer at the top of the wall.

There were three rounds in this competition. The first round consisted of four matches, the second round consisted of two matches, and the third round consisted of one match. Each match consisted of two competitors, and the winner of each match would advance to the next round. There was no time limit in this competition.

In a similar fashion to the Sprinting Steps Showdown event from the previous season, for the first round, each of the four preselected competitors would pick one competitor he/she wanted to compete against with.

Big Dipper Freestyle Challenge[]

After releasing from the bar, each competitor must perform a free-diving trick into the water. Then, each of the judges (consisted of Will, Leila, and Woody) would give a score for them. Each competitor would compete across two rounds to perform the trick and the score from both rounds would be accumulated as his/her score. The competitor who received the highest total score would be the champion. If there were at least two competitors who got the same highest score, those competitors would compete in a dive-off, with the competitor who received the higher score being declared as the champion.

Rising Mega Warped Wall[]

The obstacle consisted of a supersized version of the Warped Wall, with a much taller wall and longer runway than during the regular season, requiring competitors to build a much bigger speed and momentum to reach and climb to the top of the wall.

The competition worked in an elimination fashion. Each competitor was given just one attempt to clear the obstacle in required height. If they could complete it, they would move on the next round (with the wall's height being made taller in the next round). If they couldn't complete it, they would be eliminated from the competition. The competition continued until only one competitor could clear the required height in any round or the remaining competitors in any round failed to clear the required height.

This event attempted to break the current Ninja Warrior world record for the same event at that time set by Ben Polson and Josh O'Sullivan on Australian Ninja Warrior: Record Breakers, at 5.8 meters in height.
