American Ninja Warrior 10 was the tenth season of American Ninja Warrior, and the third season after Geoff Britten and Isaac Caldiero's total victories on American Ninja Warrior 7. The season premiered on May 30th, 2018, and hosted six cities for qualifying rounds in Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, and Minneapolis (new city), with the national finals being held in Las Vegas. Among the 6 qualifying cities for this season, Dallas and Miami returned for the first time since American Ninja Warrior 6, while Indianapolis and Philadelphia returned since American Ninja Warrior 8. For this season, Matt Iseman returned as the host for his ninth season, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila returned as the co-host for his sixth season, and Kristine Leahy returned as the sideline reporter for her fourth season. Episodes were aired at NBC on Wednesday night, but changed to Monday night (starting on June 18th, 2018).
Multiple changes were featured on this season's competition:
- The lower-age limit for the competitors to be eligible to compete. Instead of 21 years old from the past nine American Ninja Warrior seasons, competitors must now be at least 19 years old to be eligible to compete.
- During the city qualifiers round in each city, changes were added particularly to the Warped Wall:
- There were 2 Warped Walls placed side-by-side in the course:
- the regular Warped Wall (at 14.5 feet/4.41 meters high), and
- the Mega Warped Wall (or simply called as the Mega Wall, at 18 feet/5.49 meters high).
- If the competitors could reach the Warped Wall, they must decide which Warped Wall they would like to attempt:
- If they decided to attempt the regular Warped Wall, as usual, they were given 3 attempts to complete it.
- If they decided to attempt the Mega Wall, they were given just 1 attempt to complete it. If they succeeded, they would receive the cash prize of $10,000. If they failed, they couldn't reattempt the Mega Wall and were given just 1 attempt to complete the regular Warped Wall.
- During the city finals round, even though the Mega Wall was structurally presented to the course, the Mega Wall was not used in the course, making the regular Warped Wall as the only sixth obstacle in the course.
- There were 2 Warped Walls placed side-by-side in the course:
- For the first time ever during city finals round on this season, one obstacle in each city qualifiers course was swapped out for another obstacle of the same kind or position, in which the Fly Wheels from Miami swapped with Cannonball Drop from Indianapolis.
- The exceptions to this were in Los Angeles and Minneapolis, where the Sky Hooks from Los Angeles was transferred to Minneapolis, but the Ring Jump from Minneapolis was not transferred to Los Angeles as the Flying Shelf Grab took its place.
- In Dallas and Philadelphia, the Broken Bridge from Philadelphia appeared in Dallas. The Tuning Forks from Dallas was supposed to appear in Philadelphia. However, due to severe weather before the taping in that city, the producers decided to keep the Broken Bridge as the third obstacle instead of swapping it with the Tuning Forks.
- Overall, the Floating Steps, the Ring Jump, and the Tuning Forks were the only obstacles not to appear during city finals round.
- Also, at the end of the season, if no competitor achieved total victory, the competitor who made the furthest than any other competitor (also known as the Last Ninja Standing) would receive the cash prize of US$100,000.
- For the first time in the show, the competitors' names were shown at the backdrop of the course, just before they ran the course (similar as the one used in the First Stage from SASUKE 31 onwards), making American Ninja Warrior the second international format (after SASUKE Vietnam) to have that.
In addition, the rules for female competitors from the previous season returned, with the top five female competitors from each city qualifiers moving on to the city finals. Then, the top two female competitors from each city finals would move on to Las Vegas national finals. Because of these two rules, there would be no wildcards to be rewarded.
Also, with the announcement of the American Ninja Warrior: Obstacle Design Challenge from the previous season, in which fans created an obstacle that would be modified and used in one of the city qualifying courses and the Las Vegas national finals. There would be brand new obstacles submitted from the fans, and would be used on this season. Both Kevin Brekke and Kevin Carbone had their obstacles featured on the show for the second year in a row.
