American Ninja Warrior: USA vs The World 5 was the sixth installment of American Ninja Warrior's international tournament, which was premiered on January 27th, 2019 in the U.S. and July 30th, 2019 in Australia (shortly after Australian Ninja Warrior 3's season finale).
The competition returned to having 3 teams, each consisting of 5 members. Due to the increasing success of female competitors in worldwide Ninja Warrior competitions, each team was required to have at least 1 female representative; in fact, two teams had two women. Furthermore, there was a combined total of five female competitors across one teams - exactly one-third of the competitors were women.
Team USA brought along a medley of fan-favorites elite competitors. Last Man Standing Drew Drechsel once again led the team. Najee Richardson also returned, having turned in another stunning performance. Team USA's female contestants were Last Woman Standing Jesse Labreck and fan-favorite Barclay Stockett, the competiton's shortest competitor. Rounding out the team was top rookie Mathis Owhadi, representing the 19-20-year-old demographic that first competed on American Ninja Warrior 10. For the first time since American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. Japan, the previous competition's runner-up would not represent America in the international competition.
Team Europe, the reigning champions, made the unexpected decision to feature all-new members. Representing the United Kingdom were two impressive female competitors, Georgia Munroe and Katie McDonnell. Oliver Edelmann, Last Man Standing of Ninja Warrior Germany, was hoping to bring his skills to America. Ninja Warrior Spain competitor Iris Matamoros joined the fray. Finally, rock climber Javier Cano also represented Spain, continuing Team Europe's trend of including rock climbers. For the first time, Sean McColl would not represent Team Europe.
Team Australia made their debut on this tournament. Like Team USA, Team Australia consisted of fan-favorite top competitors.
There were 2 heats in each stage. Each heat consisted of 3 competitors (1 competitor from each team).
In each heat, the competitor who completed the course (or made the furthest) in the fastest time would receive 2 points for his/her team, with 1 point for the second fastest time, and 0 points for the slowest time.
The points from each heat would be accumulated, and the team who got the lowest points would be eliminated from the competition.
Stage Four
This stage consisted of a side-by-side Rope Climb, with 2 competitors (1 competitor from each team).
The competitor who reached the top of the tower in the fastest time, his/her respective team would be the champion of the tournament.
