American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. The World 4 was the fifth installment of American Ninja Warrior's international tournament (after USA vs. Japan and 3 previous USA vs. The World tournaments), which was premiered on March 11th, 2018.

Competitors[]

Unlike on the previous tournament, there were 4 teams competing. However, each team had only 4 members.

As the defending champions, Team USA brought no one but the top competitors from American Ninja Warrior 9. Joe Moravsky headed the team, while the two runner-ups, Najee Richardson and Sean Bryan, stood at Moravsky's side. Rounding out the team was Drew Drechsel, who brought his experience to the competition.

Team Europe hoped to make a comeback this tournament. Sean McColl and Alexander Mars, both of whom put up strong runs on the previous international competition, returned. The team continued the trend of putting up strong rock climbers by inviting Sergio Verdasco from Spain. The team's wildcard came in the form of Øssur Eiriksfoss, a dedicated competitor from Team Ninja Warrior Denmark. For the first time ever, Team Europe would not be represented by Tim Shieff and Stefano Ghisolfi.

Team Latin America also made significant changes in an effort to rebound from the previous competition. Freerunners Danee Marmolejo and Karl Fowl returned, and they were joined by rock climbers Sebastian Prieto and Marco Jubes, once again building the coalition of freerunners and rock climbers.

For this tournament, Team Japan returned in the form of Team Asia. This change was due in part to the spread of Ninja Warrior to southeast Asia. The team was captained by Kawaguchi Tomohiro and Morimoto Yūsuke, both top Japanese competitors. Furthermore, Lê Văn Thực, who achieved Total Victory in SASUKE Vietnam 2, was hoping to turn in another strong performance. Team Asia's final pick was Indonesia's Last Man Standing Yosua Laskaman Zalukhu.

Competition Format[]

Due to 4 teams competing in this tournament, there were some major changes. All stages did not have a time limit. For the first time, all four stages were to be used:

  • Stage One and Stage Two
    • Both stages consisted of 2 heats, each consisting of 4 competitors (1 competitor from each team).
    • In each heat, the competitor who completed the course (or made the furthest) in the fastest time would receive 3 points for his team. The competitor with the second-best performance would earn 2 points, and the competitor with the third-best performance would earn 1 point. The worst-performing athlete earned 0 points.
    • At the end of Stage Two, the points from those 2 stages would be accumulated, and the team with the lowest points would be eliminated from the competition.
    • The points would be reset to zero before the commencement of Stage Three.
  • Stage Three
    • There were 2 heats in this stage, each consisting of 3 competitors (1 competitor from each team).
    • In each heat, the competitor who completed the course (or made the furthest) in the fastest time would receive 2 points for his team. The competitor with the second-best performance would earn 1 point for the second fastest time, and the worst-performing athlete earns 0.
    • The points from each heat would be accumulated, and the team who got the lowest points would be eliminated from the competition.
    • The points would be reset to zero before the commencement of Stage Four.
  • Stage Four
    • This stage consisted of a side-by-side Rope Climb, with 2 competitors (1 competitor from each team).
    • The competitor who reached the top of the tower in the fastest time would earn the tournament championship for their respective team.
