American Ninja Warrior: USA vs. The World 3 was the fourth installment of American Ninja Warrior's international tournament (after USA vs. Japan and 2 previous USA vs. The World tournaments), which was filmed on June 17th, 2016 and premiered on June 4th, 2017 (8 days before American Ninja Warrior 9's season premiere).
Competitors[]
For the first time in the international competition, each team consisted of 6 members instead of 5.
Possibly due to the performances from the previous international competitions, Team Japan did not participate in this tournament for the first time. Instead, Team Latin America made their debut on American Ninja Warrior's international competition. The team was made up of a coalition of top rock climbers and freerunners. Although no one had formal Ninja Warrior training, each member was hoping that their experience in their sports would translate well to the American Ninja Warrior course.
Once again, Team USA's roster was significantly overhauled. Leading the team were Drew Drechsel, the Last Ninja Standing of American Ninja Warrior 8, and Daniel Gil, that season's runner-up. The two were joined by three competitors who came close to defeating Stage Two: USA vs. The World veteran Brian Arnold, speed demon Jake Murray, and top rookie Josh Levin. The final American representative was Jessie Graff, the first woman to conquer Stage One in American Ninja Warrior history. With her participation, Graff became the first female competitor in an international competition.
After a strong performance on the previous international competition, Team Europe kept several competitors, including Tim Shieff, Sean McColl, and Stefano Ghisolfi. Owing to the rapid spread of Ninja Warrior among European countries, Team Europe also sported three newcomers: Owen McKenzie, Alexander Mars, and Bjarke Tønnesen. All three were the most recent Last Men Standing of their Ninja Warrior shows. However, during the taping of Stage One, Tim Shieff suffered a knee injury while warming up, and wasn't able to compete for the rest of the tournament.
Among the 6 members of Team USA for this tournament, 4 of them made their American Ninja Warrior's international tournament debut, including the first female competitor to be member of Team USA, Jessie Graff. Also, among the 6 members of Team Europe for this tournament, 2 of them made their American Ninja Warrior's international tournament debut (Owen McKenzie from United Kingdom and Bjarke Tønnesen from Denmark).

Competition Format[]
The competition worked as followed:
- From Stage One to Stage Three, there were 3 heats in each stage. Each heat consisted of 3 competitors (1 competitor from each team).
- In each heat, the competitor who completed the course (or made the furthest) in the fastest time would receive points for their respective team: 1 point for Stage One, 2 points for Stage Two, and 3 points for Stage Three.
- The points would be accumulated among those stages, and the team who got the highest points would be the champion of the tournament.
- If there were multiple teams tied, each team would send one member to attempt Stage Four, and whoever reached the top of the tower in the fastest time would win the tournament championship for their team.
- There were no time limit across all stages.
