American Ninja Warrior: USA vs The World 2 was the third installment of American Ninja Warrior's international tournament, which premiered on January 31st, 2016.
Competitors[]
Due to the incredible results from American Ninja Warrior 7, Team USA consisted of all new members. Heading the team were Geoff Britten and Isaac Caldiero, the first two competitors to achieve total victory in American Ninja Warrior. The two competitors who beat the Ultimate Cliffhanger, Ian Dory and Drew Drechsel, were also invited to represent America. The final competitor was fan-favorite Kevin Bull.
However, during the taping of Stage Two, Geoff Britten suddenly suffered a high fever (about 103 degrees Fahrenheit/39.4 degrees Celsius) and other flu-like syptoms. For his health, he was medically disqualified from the competition. Elite veteran Joe Moravsky, who stood by throughout the night as an alternate, competed in his stead. Moravsky was the only competitor on Team USA who had prior experience in international competitions.
Due to poor results in the two previous international tournaments Team Japan almost completely overhauled its roster. The new team included competitors who turned in consistent performances up to the most recent competition, SASUKE 31. These new competitors were Takahashi Kenji, who, save for one tournament, has never failed the Second Stage; Kawaguchi Tomohiro, one of the last two ninjas standing in SASUKE 30; and Hioki Masashi, who advanced to the Third Stage in back-to-back tournaments. All of these competitors were also taller, which Team Japan hoped would put them on a level playing field to the other two teams. The only two competitors remaining from the previous tournament were the two men who cleared Stage Three, Matachi Ryo and Morimoto Yลซsuke.
As the reigning champion of the previous tournament, Team Europe only changed 2 competitors: freerunner Tim Champion and Ninja Warrior Sweden Last Man Standing Alexander Mars made their debut in American Ninja Warrior's international tournament. This move was due in part to the recent proliferation of European Ninja Warrior spin-offs.
Interestingly, among the 16 competitors who competed on this tournament, 3 of them had recently achieved total victory in 2015 (Morimoto Yลซsuke in SASUKE 31, Geoff Britten and Isaac Caldiero on American Ninja Warrior 7).

Competition Format[]
The competition worked as followed:
- From Stage One to Stage Three, there were 3 heats in each stage. Each heat consisted of 3 competitors (1 competitor from each team).
- In each heat, the competitor who completed the course (or made the furthest) in the fastest time would receive points for their respective team: 1 point for Stage One, 2 points for Stage Two, and 3 points for Stage Three.
- The points would be accumulated among those stages, and the team who got the highest points would be the champion of the tournament.
- If there were multiple teams tied, each team would send one member to attempt Stage Four, and whoever reached the top of the tower in the fastest time would win the tournament championship for their team.
- There were no time limit across all stages.
