American Ninja Warrior: All Stars Special was the first ever American Ninja Warrior's post-season tournament, which was recorded after American Ninja Warrior 7's season finale, and premiered on May 29th, 2016 (3 days before American Ninja Warrior 8's season premiere).
Team Competition[]
Competitors[]
There were two competing teams (Team Matt and Team Akbar), with five competitors in each team. Each team consisted of three American Ninja Warrior veterans, one rookie (a competitor who debuted on American Ninja Warrior 7), and one female competitor. The members of each team were selected by the play-by-play and color commentators of American Ninja Warrior (Matt Iseman for Team Matt and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila for Team Akbar).

Competition Format[]
The competition worked as followed:
- The teams competed on Stage Two, Stage Three, and Stage Four (which functioned as a side-to-side Rope Climb).
- There were three heats in Stage Two, two in Stage Three, and one in Stage Four.
- Each heat consisted of two competitors (one from each team).
- In each heat, the competitor who completed the course (or made the furthest) in the fastest time earned points for his/her respective team: 1 point for each heat in Stage Two and Stage Three, and 3 points for the heat in Stage Four.
- The points were cumulated among those three stages, and the team who got the highest points at the end of Stage Four would be the champion.
- There was no time limit to complete the stages.
