Alphabet Parley (アルファベットパーレイ), stylized Alphabet Parley in broadcast, was the third obstacle in the First Marine Stage in VIKING 3, pushing back all of the obstacles after it one spot further, increasing the number of obstacles on the stage from eight to nine.
It was similar to the Parley, however instead of solving an addition problem, this obstacle instead dealt with English alphabet. After pressing a button to stop the random generator, it would show both a letter and a number (1 or 2). The competitor would then sit down on a loose podium and have to yell the answer in a microphone corresponding to the problem, which is only (number) before (alphabet). For example, if the board read "2 before J", the competitor would yell "H" to move on.
Due to the verbal nature of the obstacle, competitors can only yell the answer once, as if it already said, even if the competitors realised his/her mistake, they would not be able to correct it. Guessing incorrectly would cause the competitors and the podium they were sitting on to drop into the water via a trapdoor.
