American Ninja Warrior: All Stars Special 2 was the second installment of American Ninja Warrior's post-season tournament, which was recorded after American Ninja Warrior 8's season finale, and premiered on February 20th, 2017.

This is currently the only skills competition that did not air less than two weeks before the premiere of a season, and currently the only to air before USA vs. The World.

Team Competition[]

Competitors[]

Unlike on the previous tournament, there were 3 teams competing (Team Matt, Team Akbar, and Team Kristine), with only 3 competitors in each team. Each team consisted of 2 American Ninja Warrior veterans and 1 female competitor. The members of each team were chosen by the play-by-play, color commentator, and sideline reporter of American Ninja Warrior (Matt Iseman for Team Matt, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila for Team Akbar, and Kristine Leahy for Team Kristine).

Competition Format[]

The competition worked as followed:

  • The stages used were Stage One, Stage Two, and Stage Three.
  • The competition worked in a relay fashion (similar to Team Ninja Warrior's Relay Showdown round), with each member of the three teams tackling a few obstacles.
  • In Stage One, the team who completed the course (or made the furthest) in the fastest time qualified automatically to Stage Three, while the other two teams competed against each other in Stage Two to earn the last spot in Stage Three.
  • In Stage Two, the team who completed the course (or made the furthest) in the fastest time advanced to Stage Three, while the loser was eliminated from the competition.
  • In Stage Three, the two winning teams (each from Stage One and Stage Two) face against each other. The team who completed the course (or made the furthest) in the fastest time is the champion.
  • There was no time limit to complete the stages (Stage One, Stage Two, and Stage Three).
