Alex Nye is a photographer from San Diego, California.
American Ninja Warrior 10[]
Alex debuted in Philadelphia on ANW 10 as a walk-on, where in qualifying, he made it to the Lightning Bolts before failing. However, he placed 20th overall, and advanced to the city finals.
In the city finals, his run was cut, but he failed the Lightning Bolts again, which was not enough to make the cut for the national finals. Like qualifying, he placed 20th overall. Footage of his city finals fall was shown in his ANW 2023 submission video.[1]
American Ninja Warrior 12[]
He returned to compete during American Ninja Warrior 12 as a member of Meagan Martin's team. In qualifying, his run was cut, but it was revealed that he cleared the course in 9th place. His run in the semifinals was digested, but it was shown that he failed the fifth obstacle, Slingshot, and did not advance to the finals.
American Ninja Warrior 14[]
Alex came back to compete during the final night of qualifying. His run was cut, but he once again finished the course, placing 13th overall. Alex uploaded his full run on his YouTube channel, where it was shown he made effortless work on the course, and was one of the few to choose the Despicaballs on Split Decision.[2] He attempted the Mega Wall, but didn't complete it. It's also worth noting that Alex was runner #501 on the course, which meant he was the kickoff competitor of Q5.
He later competed in the second semifinal episode. His run there was digested, but he failed the balance obstacle, the Spinning Bridge. His feet landed awkwardly on the fifth ball, throwing his balance off and causing him to come up short on the obstacle. Thus, he was once again eliminated during the semifinals.
American Ninja Warrior 16[]
Alex returned in the second qualifier. His run was digested, but once again cleared the qualifying course, taking a selfie at the top of the Warped Wall. He placed 5th overall.
He later competed in the final semifinal episode racing against Branden McWilliams. The race was digested, but it was pretty close until Branden failed on Hopscotch while Alex made it to Spin Hopper before falling and as a result, he advanced to the national finals for the first time in his career.
His first appearance at the national finals was digested, but he had some close calls on The Gambler, stumbled through the Dipping Birds, before he timed out on Thread the Needle, ending his best season to date.
American Ninja Warrior 17[]
Alex returned for his fifth season in the fifth qualifying episode, making it the first time that he competed in a odd-number season and also the first time that he competed in back-to-back seasons. His run was digested, but he cleared the qualifying course for the fourth straight time, this time doing so in 7th place.
He later competed in the second semifinals episode. His run there was also digested, but he was looking good until he gassed out on the ninth obstacle Doorknob Arch. He placed 16th overall, and advanced to the national finals for the second straight season.
He later competed at the national finals, where all three of his races were digested. He lost his first race against David Bergstrom-Wright after falling on the Swinging Frames while David cleared the course. He then also lost his second race against Colt Elder after falling on the Floating Monkey Bars while Colt cleared the course. He then also lost his third race against Grant Kiningham when Grant cleared the course before Alex, ending his season.
Trivia[]
- Alex is the third known kickoff competitor to finish a course in ANW. The others being Nathan Tucker in ANW 7's National Finals and Bootie Cothran in ANW 10's Miami Qualifiers.
- Although Alex did not compete in ANW 15, he got the opportunity to star as "Indiana Jones" in a 2023 commercial for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in Los Angeles.[3] In the commercial, he completed the Shrinking Steps (which had a jagged rock aesthetic to them), a lache-obstacle known as "Temple Traverse" (which functioned similarly to the Falling Shelves) and a Cliffhanger on two swinging wooden planks.
